Default US bumper conversion???

Hi guys,
I went to the dealership yesterday and asked about the US bumper conversion. Here is the price quote I got:

Part Number Part Name Price

57720FA280 Bumper face front 372.56
57760FA500 Back Beam Complete Front 307.83
57744FA200 Cover Front Bumper Right 26.93
57744FA210 Cover Front Bumper Left 27.88
84927FA011 Bracket Fog Light Front Left 14.48
84927FA001 Bracket Fog Light Front Right 14.48
84441FA160 Lamp Assembly Front Turn Right 59.12
84441FA170 Lamp Assembly Front Turn Left 59.12

TOTAL 882.40

This price is in canadian dollars and unpainted. Now I heard/read somewhere that you don't need to change the back beam just modify it.
1- Can someone confirm this and tell me what needs to be modified?
2- I will be putting Hella Lamps in the fog lamp hole so do I really need the brackets?
3- Lachute has the full conversion for 1350$ but if I can cut down on some of the parts can it be done for cheaper?

Thanks everybody,
Stefan

An important thing to note, that "backbeam" is the re-bar. The Ver. V or USDM bumper requires a different re-bar from the Canadian bumper.

And to answer your question, yes, you can "modify" your stock Cdn re-bar to fit the Ver. V bumper, however, not sure of legality over in Ontario, but here in B.C. it is considered illegal. That said, it is more of a hack job (re: cutting the bar, losing all structural rigidity) than a "modification".

If you really want to save money go ahead. I got my bumper conversion used, and the previous owner cut the re-bar so I couldn't help it. But if I were to do it again I'd get the proper re-bar.

1. People have modified the CDM reinforcement bar by chopping parts of it off. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's useless but I imagine that process will weaken it significantly. I have a USDM re-bar on mine off a USDM car.

2. Never seen the stock brackets before but I use a set of Kartboy PIAA mounts and they work great. If you don't get aftermarket mounts (Kartboy is the only one who makes them AFAIK), you'll have to fabricate custom mounts which isn't entirely difficult if you're semi-handy... I'm not so I bought em.

3. Yes

For example,
57744FA200 Cover Front Bumper Right 26.93
57744FA210 Cover Front Bumper Left 27.88

are bumper vents right? These can be left off entirely as they are non-functional, my V6 bumper has some funny looking tabs sticking out but that doesn't bother me anyway so it's cool.
