If we could afford an A8, we wouldn't be trolling Nabisco OT

My dad's company has a 2004 A8, his partner drives it. I've driven it a bunch of times. If you value your sanity, and wallet, look elsewhere....theirs has been a nightmare. It's eaten 3 transmissions, and was in the shop for 3 out of first 4 months they had it...for "electrical problems."

They just bought a 2006 to put next to it, go figure.

Theirs had issues with 1st gear on the first one, the ECU causing something to blow up on the second, and the reverse synchros on the third.

Apparently the trans is so complex Audi won't rebuild it or repair parts, they just swap them (according to the Audi tech they spoke with.)

Take every bad thing you've heard about the A4 and double it... that's what the A8 is.

You want real hell, try a V8 Quattro.

*shudders*

The annual repair costs exceed the resale value.

I would assume the rule of thumb would be "if you have to ask, you can't afford it?

My mom has an 04 and the oly problem we came across is that it ate through a set of Pzeros in 15k miles. Other than that we like it more than the 740i we traded it in on.

? is why would you want too throw a way your money & buy vehicile that would cost ass loads too operate it ?

yes its a nice and deseriable car but its a huge risk. if your really set on getting one sepend a little more and lease a brand new one with a full warrenty.

I dont know if they cover schedule mantainneace but you should stop by a service dept and talk with a tec on the specific audi you want.

my friend has a 98 or 99 can't remember. daily driver. no problems... he's a VW tech though.

i've seen a black S8 at my work for over two years almost every single day...

i guess if you are going to buy one, make sure it's been taken care of. i'd rather drop that kind of money on a UR S4/S6 or 540i.

If you really have your heart set on an A8, buy new or lease. If you want an Audi, buy a TT, A4, or A6.

It really depends what you use it for, but the A8 is a gas hog, the repair costs are outrageous, and they're expensive to insure.

I bought an A6 and have had no trouble with it.. other than a CEL because the cats fell off.

i honestly don't know why anyone would need anything bigger than an A6. i mean the A8 is super gangsta, but i'd be just asa happy with a 4.2 A6.

A6 trunk space, we can fit four golf bags w/ clubs..

A8 trunk space, you can fit 8-10 golf bags, in a 5 passenger car. You do the math

and no, I don't play golf

well yes, but as far as interior comfort goes, the A6 is pretty much the same unless you get the A8L.

edit: a real expense of owning the A8 is insurance and body repair. aluminum body = wrx hood as an entire car.

totaly would agree with you on that point and being a VW tec is needed on that car.

The A8 adds about an inch, the A8L (+$4000-$6000) adds 4-6in. depending on layout and position of the front seats....

Not worth it.
