Yeah, that's about right.

Default Need to do 1st oil change in Vancouver...

OK, the rexxy needs some fresh lube. Can somebody point me in the direction of:

- Places to buy oil and filters inexpensively (Mobil 1 and Purolator is what I usually use -- unless you have something better in Canada?)
- Places to recycle used oil

Thanks in advance!

There's nothing wrong with oem filters. Discount at Specialty and that's gotta be one of the cheapest places you can get. I buy them buy the case (of 6's).

Any places take used oil for recycling? Do you have to pay a fee?

Default Oil and filters....

Filters, yeah, I pick up OEM filters from Specialty. Can't remember how much they are -- gotta check the receipt at home.

For oil, you can purchase Mobil 1 from Crappy (um, I mean Canadian) Tire. Basically any of the new mega-sized CT's carry Mobil 1. They usually sell for $28 for a 4 litre jug. I bought a jug on sale a few months ago for 25 bucks o something lke that.

I'm gonna give Castrol Syntech a try -- Costco sells them by the case!

For recycling, i believe you can take your used oil to the Recycling Depot in Burnaby (it's by Still Creek - 'bout 10 minutes away from where you are Joe). No fee either!

Necromancer, if you need any help changing your oil, let me know.

LaterZ!

i forgot but someone said there is a recylce place will take it for free?

actually wherever u buy oil....u can go to their customer service for their oil disposal location....coz in order to sell oil here i heard they need a place to dispose oil....so whatever price u pay is included the oil disposal fee....

yet they suck big time by not telling ppl where to dispose so we buyers have to pay extra $$ for that....

$28 for 4 litres?!?!?!? Dayaamm!! On sale you could get that for US$15. Gotta stock up next time I go to Seattle...

Thanks for the advice guys. And yeah, Darren, if you have a free moment, I sure wouldn't mind a hand. Not that changing oil on these cars is hard at all, but it's nice to have somebody to share a beer with when done.

I'll probably pick up the goods tonight and change it tomorrow...

Redline, are you crazy?!?! That stuff was US$8 a quart (= CAN$65 oil change) ... polyolefins or not, my car isn't running that close to the edge.

I did run Redline in the tranny and diffs though ... smooooth. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to put some in now...

Yea, you'd have to be incredibly rich or running a crazy motor to be using Redline or Motul. Hehehe...

The closest I or my friends have come to those upper branded synth oils are Royal Purple and Torco.

Not worth it~

Royal Purple is about the same price as Mobil 1. Torco is a bit more expensive.

Redline and Motul are a lot more expensive than Mobil 1...so...you do the math 5zigen.

no synthetic for me yet right?

btw, i thought most of the gas stations will allow you to dispose the oil there??? at least i know the mohawk around my house does

yes - don't buy that crappy plastic pan from CrappyTire! Get like a honkin' wide 6L+ pan. I can drop my old oil filter into it and the drain plug and not splash stuff everywhere.

Default get a big oil container!!!

Yeah, I'm luckey that my dad bought a pretty big oil-catch basin (a.k.a. dirty plastic tub). It must be able to hold 10 litres, because I once drained my oil PLUS my dad's oil into this tub and NOTHING spilled out. About 4 litres each for a total around 8 litres.

Just make sure you have sealable containers to hold the used oil to take it back to the oil recyclers -- I ain't carrying my used oil tub in my car! YIKES!

Royal Purple at $15/L?? 5zigen where do you go?

Mopac sells them at like $6-7 a quart! Same price as the Mobil 1 pretty much.

Are you talking about the Royal Purple REAL race oil? That's not recommended for street cars because you have to change the oil every thousand kms or something close like that.

And yes, most gas stations will have a used oil disposal "container" as well. I just go to the Mohawk station by my place.
