Angry Freaken Shaw @ Home

Well, I turned on my comp this morning and came to realize that internet wasn't working, so I went out 4 lunch, hoping that the problem will be gone by the afternoon, maybe it was a server problem.

Everything worked fine yesterday night... even at 12:00PM...

I came back from lunch and called up Shaw because the internet is still not working.

After a long 20 minute wait for the representitive, they asked me my phone number, then asked me what OS I am using, I told them "Windows XP Home Edition", and that guy went "huh?" and proceeded to tell me that they don't support that.

But even the other 2 comps I have in my house does not work...

I use a Router to connect all of my comps into 1 cable modem, so the router splits the 1 line into 3 and all my comps can surf...

I don't understand why it doesn't work right now... but when I plug the line directly into my comp it works... I think there might be a problem with the router, because I don't think they have a way that they can block off a router right?

Thanks for the help

Sunny

Default reboot our router...

You probably need to reboot your router. Shaw might have done some network maintenance and your IP/MAC address is no longer valid.

Reboot your router so that it can attempt to grab a new IP address via DHCP.

Remember the throughput rates I asked you guys about before? Well I've since discovered winipcfg has the capability to disconnect and reset all TCP/IP connections and getting you the next available IP address from your DHCP server. If you get lucky, you can get a new IP, which seems to change your network traffic route, making things after. Since last week I can easily attain 1,000Kbps which is back to normal speeds for me. But after dinner, it gets a bit slow...

You'll be amazed as to what is out there for a mac... Don't let uncle Bill pull the wool over your eyes. Coz you know what he will do when the lights go out!

Default I don't like Macs either...

Sorry to say, but I find the MacIntosh interface sad and difficult to use. Please don't lecture me saying that Mr. Gates ripped off the Mac's interface! Heck, Mac is a rip-off of the research done at Xerox PARC in Palo Alto!

Mac's HANG and FREEZE! The stoopid circular mouse on the newer G4's are a HORRIBLE UI design! I'm glad the latest Mac's have a more elongated mouse. Also, the old(er) G4 keyboards suck too! The newer ones are more like PC keyboards (what was that? They're more like PC keyboards? Yes, you heard me correct! ) When a Mac hangs, no ugly error message pops up. It just stops in its tracks. At least a PC throws up on you and you know something is wrong!

Do I like PC's? You betcha. I've been using them since I was 10. Macs are for the "artsy" people. PC's are for the rest of us who could care less than the best!

LaterZ!
Darren!!

ps -- I'd rather have a Linux box or even better, a SPARC station!

Arrow ADSL just as bad!

I have two friends who have ADSL and their connections go up and down like a boat in the middle of the ocean! One day they can get an IP address and everything works fine, another day their 'net connection goes down for 3 or 4 days, other days they get crappy xfer rates! ADSL is having the same problems as cable!
