Default Need some insight on road bikes

I am thinking about asking my parents for a road bike for xmas. I have an old cheap Haro mountain bike that i pretty mcuh turned into a road bike. I would rather have a real dedicated road bike since they are lighter, faster and more fun to ride long distances. Thing is I know nothing about brands, prices and quality. I certainly wouldn't be looking at any of the high end ones. Defintely something under $1k. Just give me some ideas, links and recommendations.

what kind of riding will you be doing? "road" is a very generalized term. will you be putting big miles and hours on your bike. will you be racing or partaking in spirited group rides. will you ever plan on touring/commuting on it? all these are questions you should figure out before you go get fitted.

Sorry I was not more specific. I do not want a touring style bike. I want a sport/performance bike for fast long rides. Using this as a workout bike mostly.

+1

Get it fit and pick a color and name you like. Then ride it.

Any brand name purchased from a dedicated bicycle shop will stand behind their product. Be good to the shop and they wil be good to you.

One of the best options is Specialized. Their road bikes start around $600. Go to a local shop and talk to them.

I built up a felt F65 frame with a full ultegra 10-speed group and compact crank setup. It's my first road bike coming from trail bikes, but I have no complaints at all.

If you're serious about it, I'd say look for a bike equipped with at least Shimano 105 and fits you. Giant is almost always a good buy, but they have S, M, L sizing and you may not find the size the you feel comfortable on.
