Default About to get the SMC Injection Kit- Run with Meth or Alcohol?

My SMC kit arrives tomorrow. I have read the few threads, but my question now is what do I get setup and tuned for?

I am not really worried about the cost, I want the best performance.

SO, with that in mind, do I get Methanol (where do I buy it), Denatured Alcohol, or 50/50 Denatured and water, or???

This is going on my05 Sti with the following:
Last dyno(11/26) with Cobb Stg 2 (untuned) I ran 280 whp/300 Tq on a mustang AWD dyno with the following mods:
> Cobb Ap Stg 2 93 Octane Base and Realtime Map
> Maddad V2 Catted Downpipe
> 3" Ultimate racing exhuast
> Stock airbox with hacked snorkus, drop in K&N
> Perrin Crank Pulley
> Static X Grounding kit (just in case it added 10
> hp!)

I am hoping that with the SMC kit and a AP Protune from Topspeed to hit >300whp and >325 tq on the mustang dyno. Seems reasonable right?

Thanks Guys!

i have close to 15k miles running straight denatured alky between an fp green and an sz60. methanol was too corrosive for my liking. i know there are many here that run 50/50 because of the fear for an engine fire... which reminds me, i need to get a fire extinguisher.
what made up my mind was asking steve from smc what he runs... 100% denatured alcohol.
you can buy it at any paint store (also called shellac remover) or hardware store. out here in cali, i get it for about $10/gal from ace hardware.

I run a 50/50 blend of denatured/distilled water. I had a difficult time sourcing methanol, whereas alcohol is widely available, making road trips less of a hassle. I run a a 50/50 blend because it provides stellar detonation resistance at roughly 1/2 the cost of straight alcohol or methanol, isn't readily ignitable (see below), and I believe the H20 content cools/steams/cleans the internals while the alc/meth acts as race gas on demand - the logic/science behind it seems sound to me over running an add'l straight fuel spray. Water's octane rating is infinite, after all.......

I used the washer bottle resevoir, and wouldn't want straight alcohol/meth under the hood. The kit's well put together, but all the same.....50/50 won't catch fire if you hold a flame to it. For the performance difference between running straight alc/meth (if there is one) over water I chose the peace of mind of knowing there wasn't a potential fireball sitting next to my engine.

Good luck with the kit - I think you'll be very pleased with the results. I've got over 5k on my ride with it so far and have nothing but good things to say......I put down the #'s you see at left at 21psi on a DynaPack dyno on a 60 degree humid day with the 50/50 blend FWIW.....I think your # guesstimate sounds about right, although Mustangs are known to be disappointers......either way you'll be far better off than without it. My .02.

Edited to answer mod query: XX Tuning headers, Typhoon short ram, Hyperflow V2 tmic, SMC kit, APS SR40, PDE catted d/p, Borla Hush, UTEC

What is the performance difference between running straight alc and 50/50? What is the best psi to start spraying?

mine is set to start spraying at 12psi and with maximum around 20psi.

my car is tuned for straight alky but i have used a 50/50 mix twice. i honestly could not tell the difference in the butt dyno. the engine just seemed to rev a little rough kind of like when you're overdue for an oil change if you've ever experienced that... didn't feel as smooth. hopefully someone here will post that has actually logged the differences.

The reason it didnt pull as smooth is because you would need to modify the tune a touch for the different spray.

If you were tuned for 50/50 meth and water could you switch to 50/50 water and denatured alcohol without problems?

You should get at least 4 maps if you want to swith.
1) Whatever Oct Gasoline you use only
2) Alky/water
3) Water/ Meth
4) Straight Water

Then you can switch with whatever you have running at the time.

alchy has much more energy content than Methanol. The name isn't as cool, though. Meth just sounds so much more edgy than Eth.

But Eth will produce more power. And less damaging to plastic parts. And less poisonous.

Yes I could, and I have. I would know at the same time that I might run into knock problems(or something), and to be on the lookout. It would obviously be optimal to get tuned for the setup, but there's such a little difference between meth and eth that I don't think there would be any problems. I haven't had any problems switching the mixes on my 100% water tune, but that might just be from it not being tuned very agressively. If there are problems(like knock) after switching, it might be a good idea to try add a bit more water to the mix(or get tuned obviously). I say this cause I think meth cools better then eth, and that extra water might make up the difference.

The max flow of my nozzles should be about 7gph. I'm pretty sure that I max out at about 5gph. Setup is, 02wrx, 18g, 23ish psi at 12.5 to 1 a/f ratio and my injection mix is 100% water.
