Default Leaking Oil FAST After Oil Change

Hello,
Last night, I changed the oil in my '05 2.5RS myself for the first time. Today, I found the thread about the leaking 09A filters. I went under the car to check what filter I had installed and find that it's leaking oil like crazy. However, checking the batch number, the filter is an F11, supposedly one of the OK batches. Have the problems continued, or did I actually manage to screw up something as simple as screwing on an oil filter?

Ty

Are you sure that the rubber gasket came off with the old filter? If you accidentally "double-gasketed" the new filter it would explain the leak.

When I removed the old filter, I was left with a polished metal surface on the bottom of the engine block for the black ring on the new filter to seat against. I would assume that if the old filter had left it's black ring, I would have seen it on that metal surface.

I have seen the supposed new, updated oil filters, STILL leak. They should've stuck with the Japanese one with the nice plastic covering

It will become a problem if Subaru doesn't act fast, because many people will be comming back with the common complaint of a burning oil smell.

You can still get the black OEM filters here for anyone that's intersted:

Are you sure you tightened the oil filter on correctly? I've seen it happen before where it wasn't tightened down properly.

I threaded the filter on until the gasket on the filter made contact with the metal seat. I then tightend the filter until the resistance increased (until it became "firm") and went 1/2 turn farther. Is that enough?

I changed my oil last weekend with a F11 batch filter and it is leaking as well. Looks like I am going to have to get one of those black filters. Do they fit a 02 wrx.

My friend tried several different ones with his and when I convinced him to try the one I was using (from Amsoil) he hasn't had any leaks.

I have "fixed" (not really doing much but hey) on a couple dates where people managed to have the filter threaded all the way down but its angled so that there is a portion of it that does not make as good of contact.

Last thing I would say is are you sure it's coming from the filter?
