Eek! I'm scared just reading this thread. for some reason, I haven't had the urge to explore the max speed in my current car. Past cars yes, but current car, I haven't thought about it. I'd probably think about getting a full cage if I was going to try that though, just in case. But, not that it would really help if things went wrong around 140 mph...

yea but i was in night, no wind, straight line, not really a incline, and i was just curious, didnt even take too long to hit 140, soon as i hit it, i dropped back down to 70 the rest of the way home, felt like i was doing 20mph though

if you are gon do it, do it on a stretch where you know arent cops usually and no cars in your lane or in the next, and no wind otherwise something drastic might happen

I know the wrx governor is set to 147. With that In mind i've heard of people hitting that governor and having another 1.5-2k before red line to go. Stock. I haven't gone passed 110 and won't again until i change my tires cause my whole car turned into the worlds biggest vibrator.

I've got my '04 sedan to about 140 (probably 137/138).

On track of course.

Have only taken it to 120, and had plenty of room to spare on the tach. No significant vibration, car seemed to handle it fine. But I had no real desire to push it any further. 120 in the WRX is deceptively smooth, too easy to lull you into a false sense of security. I've also heard of people bumping up against the governor while stock, but I've never been in their cars when they did, so I have no independent confirmation.

Agree with DeKaP, if you're going to go triple digits, just be sure to do it when there is no one else on the road and the surface if flat, straight, and dry. Personally, at that speed, you're better off trying it in daylight as you are more likely to see road abberations in time to slow down safely. If you're going to do it at night, turn your high beams on or at least turn off your fog lights because they reduce your nighttime distance vision. If you can't turn your high beams on because there are cars in the other lane, don't go that fast.

Seen too many cases where people were speeding, something happened, they erred on the side of cutting the wheel to the left, went flying over the center divider and creamed someone else head on. If you're going to go that fast and screw up, make sure you're the only one that pays the price.

Course, you're all around better off just keeping it below 100.

That does not resemble an 05 STi gauge cluster.

Redline? Tach in wrong place? Everything else wrong with that picture?

Also: in my younger, stupider days I took my 02 WRX up to speed... just once. On a highway on a clear day when I could see for 2 miles ahead of me.

It'll do 145.

At the Track

120 on track, air temperature 40s, 1/2 mile straight, windows were open though, and 30 mph hairpin at end.

+1 with Makanai: Straight, light traffic, light wind, daylight. Would also add: familiar road.

Speed-o means squat at those speeds, it is nowhere accurate. To the OP, you wanna go fast, buy a corvette, not a brick on wheels.
