Yeah, that's about right.

Default Anybody install New Age STi gauge cluster?

Has anybody installed the STi gauge cluster in a non-STi car? According to the Japanese text in the catalog it is for "6MT car only". Would it still work, albeit having the indicators a bit incorrect?

Not sure if anyone has, but having that tach stare you right in the face would be awesome

wouldn't this be in KM/h instead of MP/h? Then again maybe that wouldn't bother people. What about RHD/LHD? Sure would be cool. I wanted to get the STi version that they sell for the legacy, but it looks like it wouldn't be compatable.

Having the engine internals to be able to spin up to an 8K redline would be even more awesome.

From what I have heard, very difficult. I saw this on ebay last week and wanted to pick it up. Get somebody real goo to do it for you. I am sure a few things will need to be calibrated.

Nick.

The STi instrument cluster has shift point beep thing.
You set RPM in the digital readout below the speedo and when it revs to the rpm you set, it beeps. Sorta like FD3S RX7 shift beep, but in GDB you can adjust the rpm. I think that's why it says 6MT only.

Precisely why I need it. Job related relocation to Canada => I need a km/h speedometer, so why not go for the real mccoy?

Nick, what about the installation makes it difficult? It's a fully electronic unit, no cables to mess with, just a lot of wiring harnesses, right? Or do the harnesses not match our cars? Who told you the installation would be difficult?

gogogo, thanks for the info on the shift beep. Pretty cool stuff.

I think the main thing is how our cars calculate speed. Maybe input shaft speed and gear? or output shaft and input shaft and derive gear from that? I should be the same method on both transmissions except that things may operate kind of funky. Not sure...

Default Cobb sells the STI for GC8

and I remember reading on their site that it was rewired or something for our cars. Check out their site to see if its still there and perhaps get in contact with them for more details on compatibilty. They might know something about the new age Impreza guages.

There's a hall effect sensor on the rear output shaft of the tranny. I don't see any reason why that would be any different for 6MT versus 5MT models...

The mystery continues. So nobody on this continent has installed one? Cool!

It would not be programmed to work with the ecu. I am sure if you hook it up it will work but I am sure it will not read properly. And the harness ahs to be different. The Sti is a totally different car. Why not take it to a subaru dealer...Just to get some insight on the matter from a good dealership that supports mods. In TO we have a few people but I am not too sure about where you live.

I say give it a shot if the harness fits. I don't think it will hurt.

Nick.
