Question Which Code Scanner?

I have been looking into a code scanner for my WRX. What are all you using to pull codes? I don't want to spend a fortune, but want enough to be able to read and reset codes. Please let me know what you have and how you like it.

Thanks!!

You could try:
http://www.ghg.net/dharrison/palm.htm

and if you don`t have a PALM
you can try:

I ordered the palm version.
From what I`ve heard from people who have it they seem really pleased.

If you only want to read and reset DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), then any of the OBDII scanners that work with the ISO interface will work. Most require a laptop but some, as mentioned in the post above, can also be used with a handheld.

The cheapest, software-wise, is the OBD-2 Vehicle Explorer Scan Tool Browser . It's FREEware. It is quite advanced and allows real-time monitoring and logging. Logging is important when you're trying to tune your car. It captures all of the parameters of interest and can play them back later, for analysis. The catch is that the author wants you to buy his protocol converter (RS232/OBDII) for $122.

Multiplex Engineering sells a protocol converter (without software) for only $72. I intend to try it with the above software. If they don't work together, then I'll rely on Glenn Wallace (moderator of WRX Non-Technical) to get his software debugged and running (he's using the Multiplex Engineering plug). Hopefully Glenn will have divined the "secret" (proprietary) Subaru Tool interface into the OBDII connector and be able to provide us with all the info that Subaru's $2900 tool can provide.
