Default Setup Questions

In the last snow storm I had the great luck of meeting the local granite curbing with my right front wheel. I have not verified but based on what others have experienced I am assuming that I need to rebuild that corner a bit. With that in mind I want to do a few upgrades in the process which leads me to a couple of questions.

I autocross in STX once in a while. The car currently only hase Perrin Front and Real Sway bars and I run a set of 17" SSR Comps and decent tires. I am looking for somewhat of a set it and forget it type setup, so limited adjustments. I like to run my car as I do on the street or at least close to it and see how competitive I can be.

- Are STI aluminum lower control arms legel in STX. I though I read that the 06 WRX is now equipt with them from the factory so would that put this in the update backdate umbrella? Or was that just a rumer?

- I was thinking of running a set of Koni inserts with Prodrive springs. With the Koni's do the Prodrives have a high enough spring rate? Is there a spring with a slightly higher rate with similar drop without going overboard?

Keep in mind this is not a full time AutoX car as I had hoped when I first bought it. So I am looking for a better handling package without going overboard.

Any suggestions on where to get these parts at a good price would be appreciated as well.

Thanks
Marc

Nope. Never have been.

UD/BD does not exist in ST. You have to run same equipment as it came from the factory unless otherwise allowed through the rules.

Konis and prodrives would be fine... I would go with just a little more spring personally than the prodrives allow (like around 300# or so) for a still fine daily drive and auto-x car.

KC,

Thanks, You can tell I am not that familiar with the rules but at least I am smart enough to ask before I jump.

So it sounds like I go with a stock control arm. Koni inserts and springs with around a 300# rating. I guess I have to find a spring with around that rating and then I have my setup.

Thanks
Marc

hmm.. I guess Ground Control is the only way you could find that spring rates. I hope I am wrong though.

I thought they were perfectly legal as long as you dont have camber plates? You just have to call them a method of camber adjustment.

You're right STi control arms are OK as long as you don't use another method of camber adjustment.
I second the Konis, I think they are comfy on the street with up to 400lb springs.

I am having trouble finding springs with anything near the 300# rate. The highest I can find are 225. Does anybody know of any besides Ground Controls?

Thanks
Marc

Here you go...

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...t=spring+rates

280ish is about the highest rate you're going to find for a standard spring, and to do that you're going to have to switch to an '04+ style rear top hat.
