I find out what you want, steal an SRT-4, then go back in time to ALL the lowe's and buy them out of whatever wierd isht you were trying to get.

Then I take them all and return them for store credit at Home Depot.

Then I return the SRT-4, but have to park it next to itself since I returned it before I took it. It gets a little wierd there.

Decide you need stuff 1 day before you need it and get it from www.mcmaster.com . No handling charges and, in my case, standard ground shipping gets the stuff to me the next morning if I order before ~5pm. Great web site, everything is picked and packed neatly and in groups... great place to get fasteners and everything else.

The Lowe's near me doesn't have self-checkout so it doesn't matter what they have in stock, I don't buy there. The Home Depot across the street from Lowe's does have a self-checkout, so I shop there instead.

The Lowe's was built a couple years after the Home Depot too, so why they wouldn't have the self-checkout I don't know, but I sure wish every store had one.

McMaster is the bomb, no doubt. Any real man would probably cry if he set foot in their warehouse. I have noticed that you'll pay a premium for some things, especially raw materials (sheets of plastic, etc...)

Yeah, we use that at work and I order stuff I know I can't get a HD or Lowes or West Marine. I just have to go to the purchasing office and give them my CC# and it will be here the next day. We also have a place called grainger here. Not sure if they are national, but also very good.

The HD near my house it OK, but I only go there when I need it now and can't wait a day or two.

Menards or Ace>said bigbox store.

I once went to Home Depot to get a quart of oil. Yes, a quart of oil.

Did they have it?

No.

Never stepped foot in either store since. Been 5 years.

I have a theory that no matter what, whenever you go to Home Depot or Lowes, unless you know specifically exactly what you need (and even so), you always settle for something.

You go in, go to the section where it'll be, have a clear picture in your head of what you need...

And end up making some contraption out of couplers from plumbing, bolts and washers from hardware, and JB Weld.
