Wow... sounds like you screwed up that trans pretty good. Keep us informed as to what it is that went wrong with it exactly, I'm kinda keeping a metal notepad of things that go wrong with the RS's so I can watch for them.

I have had a rough time shifting into 5th for a while and lately a lil bit into 3rd.

5th is now getting grindy.

Stopped by the dealer and they are ordering me parts

Question

Donnie, could the problems with your tranny have something to do with the fact that you cruise with the car in neutral, clutch up?

Anyone else experience this yet?

I've never heard of having a problem caused by leaving the clutch engaged in neutral... I've had lotsa stick cars and never a problem from that. Mainly just problems from beating the crap outta the trans's.

Speaking of which, I'm thinking I'm gonna be needing a trans fluid change sometime soon....

Good, I'm planning on starting to drive that way to save on gas.

I believe that everyone still recommends Redline 75w90ns for the tranny.

Andrew - Wait, which way are you talking about exactly? I thought you were talking about letting the clutch engage in neutral at like stop lights and such so you don't have to have your foot on the clutch all the time. If you pull up behind me at a light, chances are I won't have my foot on either the clutch or the brake unless there is a slope.

Thanks for the tip on the trans fluid... now I just have to figure out how hard it is to change it. My last car was a real PITA, I actually had to straddle an edge of a parking lot so I could get the drivers side up a few feet higher then the pass because the filler was on the side of the trans. LOL.

Hmmmmmm... honestly, I don't think cruising around in neutral will save you much in the way of gas unless you obsess over doing it. If you take into consideration that you have to increase gas consumption just to get back to the speed you started cruising from, then you actually might be using more then a steady speed in gear.
