Default What do you guys think?

I found a turbo kit for my RS for a whooping $1400 used. The cheapest WRX swap cost $4500 or so if I do it myself and have someone else do the wiring. Is it really worth the trouble of turboing my car for 1400 and have a short fun, or just keep saving? I'm not looking for big power, just a little extra (50-80hp extra MAX) to climb those mountains

Don't tell me to search because I did every other tread compares with more expensive new turbos. I'm getting this turbo for a good deal (CHeAP!), so is it really worth my time to buy and install it?

Also, this guy says I do not need EM because I'm only boosting 4-5lb and running a vortec fmu with SVX fuel regulator.

you should be fine with thatsetup. i ran a wrx turbo setup on my 1998 OBS for almost 30k with zero prob. initially i stayed at 5spi for reliability. a month before i took it off i turned it up to 7psi a couple of times. it was cool, but i heard sounds i didn't like after a little while. not sure what it was, but after removal, i didn't hear any weird noises. but the engine still runs exactly like it did 70k ago. GO FOR IT! -keith

^^^Why did you take it out? Did you ever figure out the noises?

The seller said he used the turbo for over 70k miles and recently put his car back to stock. Turbo is rebult and ready to go, so I heard.

I did some further search and found a little people with problems often boost over 7-8 psi, so staying under 5 psi shouldn't be a problem.

i went to school, and didn't want to risk going broke while there. i like to drive, and i play hard. i had no job to pay for what i was about to break. and no i never figured it out. except after i removed the entire setup, no noise! weird for sure!
it better be rebuilt, 70k anything can happen to a turbo(wear thru hose clamp, overboost, and blow motor) mine had less than 10k when i bought it. 5 psi is the limit with no EM of any type. HEED THE WARNING NOW! or you will feel the wrath.
