Thumbs up Greddy Evolution Exhaust

Moved this to the review forum.

Just got it today, from Speed Concept, in Aloha. It's a full cat-back, took about 45 min to install. Most of that time was taken getting the stock cat-back out. And replacing a stock bolt I broke.

The system is 2.25" ID and a single 4.5" angled outlet.

Review:

Sound- Deep, but not noisy at all. I hadn't heard one before so I was scared of too much noise. It's quieter than a Stromung and the Tanabe Racing medalian. The sound is just realy deep at idle and light throttle, very mellow. Nice and throaty at WOT, it never gets very loud. Infact, at WOT, my engine drowns out the exhaust. But it still makes itself known with a realy low growl, I love it, and I hate loud exhausts. Pretty much un-noticable at highway speeds. So anyone concerned about the noise, don't be.

Power- As far as gains are concerned, butt-dino says the car is the same on take-off, Zippier in the mid range, and a bit more pull on top. Probably not much more than Aprox 5 Horsies. But don't quote me on that, I don't know how accurate my butt-dino is.

Looks- Verry nice! I was looking at the Racing Medallian before, and was concerned about how much it sticks out. The Greddy muffler is flush with the cut-out for the bumper and the tip is slightly angled. The majority of the canister is up behind the back bumper and looks realy sharp. You can see, in pictures of it, that the bulk of the can is on the top half of the muffler so it doesn't stick too far down. And to finish it off, both sides of the tip have an indented Greddy logo. (Like on the STI muffler)

Gripes-

#1- The Midpipe section and rear pipe of the muffler are ceramic coated steel and not stainless, (But the muffler itself is Stainless). I tinked the midpipe a couple of times and chiped some of the coating off. I will have to hit those sections with some silver, high heat paint.

#2- The one elbow in the midpipe rubbed (very slightly) on the Exhaust heat shield under the car. I had to bend the heat shield out of the way a little bit, but nothing drastic. Just a couple of light taps with a hammer and it was fine, not much of a gripe really.

Over-all- I am very, very happy with this set-up! I don't like much noise and this system doesn't bug me at all. It looks very sharp, and was a snap to install. For me, I would not buy any other system. But everyone has their preference, this one fits me perfect!

Sorry for the long post , just wanted to get all this info out there for people to absorb. I did a search and nothing much really came up! I'll get some pics up soon!

Buck

Does anyone have pictures or even sound clips of this? I have been looking to get a cheap exhaust that will offer me a a good sound and performance statement. I'm not afraid of having an exhaust that looks like it is aftermarket, however a 4.5 tip is quite big.

My car came with this exhaust on it when I bought it (used), but it's a GReddy, and it says 'trust' on the bottom of the can. I'm not sure if this is the exact same, but here's a pic of mine: The tip's really not as bad as you'd think, for being so huge. Its positioning (tucked way up under the bumper) is pretty good.

Here's my setup:
-Weapon R intake (same old setup: K&N cone filter, mounted inside the engine bay)
-Borla Headers, really old model, probably 1st gen.
-Greddy cat-back exhaust, about 2 years old; says Trust on the bottom of the can and looks exactly like the EVO, except it doesn't say 'GReddy' on the tip.

And here's what it sounds like. This clip was recorded using a microcassete recorder- the one I use to tape my professors' lectures. The recorder was sitting in the back seat or my 2000 coupe, with the windows rolled up and the sunroof closed. I think I used full throttle in 2nd-3rd gears, but I don't remember exactly. Notice all the road noise in 4th gear, when I reached about 70mph.

The sound is pretty accurate if you listen to it with headphones (computer speakers suck), and make sure all your equalizer settings are normal. It's not very loud at all inside the car, if I turn my stereo up (to the point where I have to raise my voice to talk to passengers), it's hard to hear the engine.

I had a clip of the exhaust from the outside of the car, but the volume level was too high, so the recording turned out horrible. I'll make another recording tomorrow if I get time, or maybe the next day. I've gotta wait until a day when I've got free time, but it's not early in the morning or late at night. I don't want to make my neighbors to hate my car, because I've gotta park it outside.

here's a clip from outside the car. The tape recorder was sitting on the sidewalk about 20feet behind the car, which was parked on side of the road.

Remember, this isn't just a Greddy exhaust, it's a borla header and a weapon-R intake also. It makes it nice and grumbly.
