depends on what you're looking for. i'd guess that most people in this forum would answer legacy.

the legacy is bigger, more comfortable, and more expensive.
the impreza is lighter, has greater aftermarket support, and is available with the 2.0 liter turbo.

In the past 6 months I have owned both a 1998 Legacy L Wagon and a 1999 Impreza L Wagon (currently owned).

The Legacy is a bigger, smoother riding car, lots of space inside, my dad had no trouble riding in the back seat. I could haul two bicycles in the back with the seats folded down.

Although, I'm gonna say that the Impreza is more comfortable, mostly because the front seats in the Impreza are a lot better, Legacy front seats suck. The weight difference is noticable also, I like the quicker handling of the Impreza, easier to park, etc.

Other than that, there are a LOT of similarities between the two cars, most everything under the hood is identicle, both are great reliable cars.

Get the Legacy if you're gonna be hauling people or gear, get the Impreza if you want a sportier car that's a little cheaper.

He hit that on the money. That is why I bought my car.

Legacy. I wish I had gotten another one, but I wanted a faster car and the Legacy does come up short.

I was trying to find a impreza with low miles for almost a year here...I wasn't very familiar with mechanics so the low mileage hopefully from some older couple was prefered...unfortunately it didn't work that out for me... though i did miss numerous ones which got me so

I got a 99 legacy L sedan in the end...was hoping to add some much needed power to it but given my level of experience and lack of local subaru nutz that could help me perform the changes met a lot of fellow subaru owners though but I can't find myself up to ask for the help in actually doing it... lack of knowledge paired with modifications to make others work just scare me given the car runs so good as is...oh what to do *sniff

Its my first subaru and I love it... now I jus tneed to see if I can infact do anything for my little legacy even if I can't get big power I would love help on suspension setups to improve the already sweet ride
