Default Gas tank interchange?

hey all,

My '93 Impreza AWD has a small leak in the fuel tank, around the mid seam. SOA wants more than $400 for a new one, and I don't dare get one out of a '93 in a junkyard (because of rust). How would I find out if one from a newer Impreza would work? Or, is there a way to repair it? (no, I wouldn't weld it up with the fumes still in it)

maybe it's cheaper to go to a fuel cell.....
