choosing an air compressor

ok, i'm finally in the market for an air compressor. this will be a general purpose use compressor, meaning it will see duty from auto repair to home improvement. i'm looking to stay under $300 if possible

what do you guys/gals recommend and what should i be looking for?

so far, i've heard that i should get one that is at least 25 gallon and has a scfm of at 4.5/90 psi

by the way, i need a horizontal compressor

I would not buy an oilless unit. They do not hold up as well as the traditional iron block piston type. They also have a funky sound when running. But, they are cheaper.

I have an old Craftsman 240V 2 HP unit, 20 gal tank, 125 psi max, 7.4 SCFM at 90 psi. It keeps up easily with my impact wrench when rotating tires.

Most power tools today are coming from China. Some good, some bad.

I listed the compressor I use. Speaking of oiless/oiled, good luck locating a 115v 15amp oiled compressor for less than $300. I also prefer a compressor that runs on oil for less sound and longer life but they are quite a bit more expensive.
