Wow then it must cost even more than, cause my friend had to have his tank taken off and it took a few hours since they had to remove tons of parts under the car for the tank to drop out.

The fuel filter is located in the tank....it's not a normal maintenance item

You can gain access to the tank by removing the back seat bottoms. You should not have to drop the tank. The process should take no more than 30 minutes

I thought there is a fuel filter located in the engine bay. At least that was what I heard from a few people.

The service guy should get back to you after the technician tells him that it isn't a normal fuel filter replacement.

I know the fuel sensor is in the trunk where you have to take it out by taking out the backseat. however, on nasioc I read there is a fuel filter located in the engine bay. So which one should I change? I am confused since people are saying different things.

What are you doing? Normal fuel filter replacement? Get some screwdrivers and do it yourself. Look in this pic, behind the washer fluid tank on the upper right. See those black lines that come together? In between is the fuel filter.

This is what it looks like, except this pic is upside down.

People, people....

On the STi, the fuel filter is in the fuel tank. There is no filter in the engine bay. You have to remove the back seat to gain access to it because it is part of the fuel pump assembly.

P.S. Your owners manual is your friend...

Mine is in the tank. Changed it while I was upgrading my fuel pump.

For all those who have been wondering, here is the STI fuel filter. The part number is 42072FE020. It's $62 from subaruparts.com
