Question too much oil?

So I did an oil change without doing the filter today. I added 5 quarts of new oil but forgot about the amount of oil that's still in the filter. I checked the dipstick a few hours later and the oil comes up to the uppermost dot (the one above F). Should I be worried about potentially damaging anything?

1) why would you change the oil and not the filter

2) get the oil between the F/L dots or at the top F dot

No problem if the oil is not over the notch or dot above the full hole. The notch is the recomended hot high oil level.

I still think the real question here is why did the oil change get done without a filter change...

Ditto.

You will probably be complaining next that you smell oil burning. Drain some out, or suck it out trhough the filler tube.

BTW, I believe the owners manual has a listing for for replacement quantity with/without a filter change. Can't figure out why since a filter is only ~$4.

Manual says 4.2 quarts with the filter. You need to drain some oil.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to replace the filter which hopefully will drain enough oil to put me back where I'm supposed to be.
