Wazoo Racing Clinches the Rally America Eastern Region Production GT Championship

For Immediate release

Nashua, N.H., December 26, 2005

Wazoo Racing of Nashua, NH capped their 2005 season by clinching the Rally America Eastern Region Production GT Championship. The team also repeated their strong performance in the North American Rally Cup (NARC) Championship by finishing second in the Production GT division for the second year in a row.

“The 2005 season had its high’s and low’s, that’s for sure” said driver and team owner, Tim Penasack. “ Every event that we finished we were on the podium with our top finish being a 3rd overall at the Rally St Agathe-Defi in September. Unfortunately we also failed to score any championship points at three other events due to mechanical failures, but in the end we held on to win the Eastern Region PGT Championship”

The season started on the down side with the team scoring no points at the Oregon Trial Rally due to a mechanical failure. “Oregon was a disappointment for us since we had traveled so far to run the event only to drop out because our jack failed while changing a tire on the stage” said Penasack.

Wazoo Racing headed into the Susquehannock Trail Rally with a new lead sponsor, Subaru of Nashua as well as a new co-driver, Marc Goldfarb. Penasack and Goldfarb fought hard during the rally and finished second in class in the national and first in both of the regional events.

The team then headed to the New Richmond, Quebec for the Rallye Baie de Chaleur. “We really enjoy running Baie” said Goldfarb “the organizers put on a great event and the stages, including the famous Camp Brule stage, make the trip well worth it.” Once again the team had success by finishing 9th overall in the national event and 3rd overall in the regional event.

The last weekend in July brought the Wazoo Racing team to their home event - the Maine Forest Rally in Rumford, ME. “Maine Forest has a reputation of being very hard on cars and this year was no different. We lost our engine on stage 7 when the timing belt failed.” Said Goldfarb “We were running very well, having won the regional event the night before and were currently running second in class in the national event but luck wasn’t with us”.

The next event for the Wazoo Racing team was the Rally St Agathe-Defi outside of Montreal, QC where the team had its best finish of the season – Third Overall, first in class in the national and first overall in the regional event. Said Penasack “Defi has always been a series of firsts for me, it was the first event I ever ran, first event I had any type of podium finish and this year it was the first Overall podium.”

The team then headed to the Lake Superior Performance Rally in Houghton, MI. Unfortunately mechanical issues sidelined the team once again when the engine failed all together. “We were running third in class and 12th overall on Friday night when the engine just let go all together ending our rally” said Penasack.

Wazoo Racing then returned to the woods of Maine for the Maine Forest Winter Rally. “We went into this event focused on testing the new engine as well as getting the tires and suspension setup for next season” said Austin Cate, Wazoo Racing’s Crew Chief. Penasack and Goldfarb were running third overall in the event when they slid off the road getting seriously stuck and bending a control arm. “We had 5 different competitors work on pulling us out – that says a lot about this sport,” said Penasack. Once they got back on the road they limped through the final stages happy to just complete the event.

Overall the season was good even though we experienced a series of mechanical difficulties. Said Penasack “after our strong finish at STPR we had a lot of confidence going into the rest of the season and our results at Baie prove it. We have a strong team moving into the 2006 season and the car is in great shape, so we should be a serious challenge for the Rally America Production GT championship.”

Rally Stuff

Thanks everyone.

We have put a more comprehensive engine maintenance program in place for 2006. Based on some data that we are starting to track we will change engines and refresh them at specific intervals. That engine that gives its all at LSPR had 16 events on it without a refresh! A majority of them were under normal ECU conditions (versus the LINK we started running this year) but it is a testament to the durability of the Suabru engines if though - it put up with me bouncing it off the redline that many times.

Thanks again and we are looking for a stronger 2006
