The rubbing issue depends on how much the car is lowered. If it's not lowered it might be ok. I autocross with A guy who runs 235 50 r16 on the stock rims. Your size and offset may be different.

235/40-17.....and as long as the wheel offset is +48 or more it shouldn't rub unless you are slammed to the ground---which is a bad idea, anyway

Thanks im at stock ride height right now but want to get some prodrive springs in the future, every last mm of tread counts in my experience so 235s on 17s it is.
