Default AMSOIL 2 Stage Air filter

I have been thinking of replacing my air filter with an AMSOIL 2 stage air filter. They (AMSOIL) said the 2001 used the AMSOIL TS129 Foam Air Filter, and I am wondering if this would fit a 2002. Has anyone ever used this? Is this better than a K&N filter? I think the advantage is I don't have to clean as often but anything else? TIA

I have an Amsoil filter in my 98 Forester (different filter size than yours) and I like it. Don't expect any performance gains from just a filter swap, however. The noticeable difference is that there is more intake noise at WOT.

Between Amsoil and K&N, do a search and you'll find lots and lots of arguments between the two.

I picked Amsoil because they seem to trap dirt a little better than K&N. Also, Amsoil filters, being foam, are easier to clean. You can dunk the whole thing into a bucket of soapy water and wash it without worrying about tearing paper.

I also plan on changing the air intake with something that I have not decided on, any recommendations? Have you done any modifications to your Forester? Also noticed that the 2.5 RS has the same engine and basically looks the same underneath, can I do the same engine mods to it?

I've got the Amsoil filter and chose it over the K&N simply because it seems like it has a sturdier design.

I also have a deleted snorkus, exhaust, and a few other goodies that don't affect engine performance.

It has kept the airbox tubing leading to the engine squeaky clean, even though the airbox next to the fender is covered in dust, pebbles, and mud that was sucked up. The Amsoil kept it all out of the engine.

I have an Amsoil TS129 in my Forester. I had to trim about 1/8-1/4" off one edge to get it to fit and have the airbox close properly. Sounds mean under WOT and I *think* I have a little more power, but unfortunately the gains are more than likely in my head.

I wanted to get a 2.25" RalliSpec cat-back but sadly they are closing shop. It would appear that Ferretboy will be the only owner of such a system. I wish some of the tuners would consider us more than just "soccer moms" and recognize we want systems too - and I don't mean the loud, rust-prone Stromungs either!

I'm running a Ganzflow intake with stock filter (been thinking of going the K & N route), Magnecore wires and I swapped out the Chump plugs for Bosch + 4's. I couldn't be happier with the way the engine idels and pulls under WOT. I too am dismayed that we cant find a decent exhaust system made of quality materials, has good performance and doesn't ruin your hearing when driven for long periods of time.
