Default Does anyone have a pic of Prodrive WR suspension

Hi,
Was wondering if anyone has a pic of the Prodrive WR suspension, both on and off the car. May have uncovered a treasure, just trying to confirm.
Thanks,
Bruce

*Technically* speaking, Impreza01's pic is the WR set. Jon's suspension (which he sold last year I think?) is what was called the "pre-WRX" suspension, by Prodrive.

Though I think they were basically the same thing. The silver/silver set is what was for sale on www.prodrive-usa.com though, before they switched over to just www.prodrive.com here. The silver/blue WR set was the European verson.

I think. I swear you need a PhD to understand Subaru timelines.

There were two distinct versions from Prodrive. The "GT" was the original "Prodrive Suspension", introduced around '95-'96. It was strictly aftermarket, and had blue springs. The WR Sport version had gray springs, which were somewhat (reportedly 20%) stiffer, with revised shock valving to match. It was installed by Prodrive on the limited production WR Sport version of the 1999 British Impreza Turbo and was also available through the aftermarket from around that time.

For the sake of common terminology:

Prodrive GT Suspension = blue Eibach springs, inverted Bilsteins, great ride, available ~1995 to ~2002.

Prodrive WR Sport Suspension = gray Eibach springs, inverted Bilsteins, firmer ride, available ~1999 to present.

Colors are right, but I thought the fitment was only for GC8 body Impreza's. I think I have a picture of them off my car but here's a pic of them on my car:

Yes, that's correct. Too bad--if they made them for the STI, I'd run them again.

Oh, you meant production years not fitment years. Gotcha... still not entirely awake.

Got mine out yesterday. Significantly dirtier, and a little more rust, but that's what they look like. Wow, talk about a surprise when I went to replace the stockers I was told were on the car to find these. Ended up putting the stock set up back on until I find a spring that I like. The Eibach's seemed to ride a little to low for my taste and I had rubbing issues with my 215/45/17's. All four are nice and stiff though...now to find a set of red prodrives.
Pics below. Thanks for all of the info guys.

So, what's the best way to clean these, take off the rust and repaint?

Well, there's the Prodrive/Ohlins kit that you can buy, which is better yet AND adjustable. Myles sells them: www.racecompengineering.com/coilover.html

bigdweeb,
The ride height on your car looks even a bit taller than mine, with STi V5/6 struts and springs. Which I actually like.

I'd love to buy a WR set, someday (oh and thanks to Jon for the description ). Just need the money of course...

I can't compare the ride height exactly to what you have, but I think it was about the same drop as what JGard had on the car when I bought it, V5/6 struts and stock RS springs. It might be just a tiny bit lower than that. It's a hell of a lot firmer though between the suspension and the Group N tophats. I really like where it sits and how it handles. I also like that they can be rubuilt some day.

Yeah I like that too.

You have Jim's old car? Cool. He is actually the one that installed *my* STi suspension in October 2001, in kpratte's old garage in NH.

Is there a version of this setup sold for the V7 cars?

No.

The closest thing may be the Prodrive/Ohlins kit, as I mentioned earlier, sold by Racecomp/GTWorx.

How is the ride with the P1 spring/WR strut combo?

I'm using Pro-Kits w/WR struts and the ride seems. . .a bit soft-awesome for every day but with more dive/squat than with AGX's or V5's (no perceived movement at all

The ride is very nice. Great daily driver combo and P1's really shine in hard cornering... they get very stiff (progressive design).

If they didn't make a setup for the V7 then what are these?

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=913584

Makes you wonder with the Brembo brakes on that assembly. Did they install Brembos on earlier than V7 cars as OE in Japan?

Prodrive does not currently sell standrad housing struts for the WRX and this is the first I have seen of these?

Those are NOT Prodrive struts.

I don't know if it's the best way, but I cleaned up some WRX struts using a wire brush heads in an electric drill. A couple of different sizes for different areas, and it got the rust of quickly. Then I sprayed them with a couple of coats of appliance enamel from Sears.
