2002 wrx - is there a glow ring around your ignition?

Sup guys, I saw some pics of a WRX the other day, and it had a glow ring around the ignition switch. I looked at mine, and it's not there. It actually looks like the ignition has been messed with (there's a uneven amount of space around the the actual key switch and the adjacent plastic). So is it just my car (second hand) or are all 2002 rexes like that?

can you fit a glow ring on a 02' if you get the hardware off a 03' ??

if u look at an 02 and 03 ull notice a lot of subtle differences, i.e. the glow ring, bolts where there used to be screws, different parts #s, etc.

02 is/was so ghetto compared to the later years....its the little things really.

with the exception of the trim ring, the 02 and 03 interiors are identical (in mid-02 they changed some things - little stuff like the ridges between switches on the drivers door and stuff like that) - I think comparing a late 02 to an 03, the trim ring is the only difference. In 04 they changed the color of the painted trim to be a little darker, moved the tach to the middle, and changed to the integrated headrest seats (which aren't as well bolstered, imho) with that funky waffle fabric. The first major change (trying to go to the "integrated" looking center console) was in 05... I like the darker trim in the 04, but the seats are better in the 02/03... realistically, none of the WRX's are really all that fancy inside...

I am not sure what screws were changed to bolts as suggested above, or why bolts are even necessary or better in those applications (if it's low torque, there's really no benefit to a hex head bolt over a phillips head screw, assuming the threaded part is the same...)

possibly the OP has a model made in late 01 vs early 02. the later built ones may have gotten the ring as they shifted to manufacturing the 03. I know the 95 blazer....some are odb1 and some odb2 cause thats the year they switched.

mine was built the month before 03 production began and doesn't have the glowing trim ring - I remember when the 03's came out, that was one of the few differences which were pointed out.

if u got the car in 2002 it is probably an 03
most of us 2002 owners purchased the car in early 01

Subaru started producing the ignition ring in 03 and up WRXs. It was not in 02s...that was the only interior difference in 02-03 WRXs.

I'm sure SOA has a part number for it.
