Default I wish there was an mp3 random/shuffle feature that worked...

Anyone else anal about their random/shuffled music?

I used to use WinAmp until I got pissed about how it didn't really randomize it, it would play like 30 songs then go back through the same shuffle all over again.

Then I used iTunes for PC and it does almost the same thing, it decides what song will go after what song, so eventually I can predict what song will be next because it goes through the exact same order.

My iPod shuffle isn't even random, it does pretty much the same thing as iTunes and WinAmp, I have 100 songs on it and it only randomly goes through about 30 before starting over.

I know nothing is truly random, but they can atleast attempt it.

My iriver has the same problem. It generates its suffle order based on the song it starts on, so if you start on the same song, it will have the same suffle order every time.

+1 for Musicmatch. I use it at work cause streaming XM will use our entire companies bandwidth.

So you're looking for something that after the playlist has been played, it re-shuffles automatically instead of hitting the shuffle/random button again, right?

No, he's looking for a truly random play order. Most manufacturers don't do this because random lists tend to repeat themselves, and they'd have idiot customers calling up and screaming about how their daughter's iWhatever played Britney Spears "Toxic" twice in an hour and forced them to kill their nanny and bury her body in the back yard.

That's what I was thinking. I haven't had any repeats in my playorder in ITunes, nor in the instance of a shorter playlist, has one song played after another on a constant basis... it always picks a different song to follow.

It shouldn't be too difficult for manufacturers to put in a function to re-randomize if the next song in play order is the same as the last song played.

But yeah, something that will constantly randomize itself. It wont play the playlist the same random way all the time.
Maybe its impossible to play every song once, randomly, without doing the same order all the time.

Then you might occasionally get:

Song A
Song B
Song A
Song C
Song A
Song B
Song A
Song B

i think iTunes does have options to change how random the play is. I think it's that you can change the likely hood that two songs in a row are from the same artist, but i'm too lazy to check

Oh wow, that option is new. I just turned it to "least likely" and to shuffle albums. Thanks eric rxb.
