Default 225/45/17 or 225/40/17?

which one would be better? i remember someone on this forum said 45 is too high on a 05 wrx and said 40 is the way to go? any input? this is going on gram light 57s by the way

225/45/17 is closer to the overall diameter of the stock tires and what is usually recommend.

I tried 3 different online tire retailers, and the only 225/40r17 that came up was the Nitto NT 555. Unless you really want that tire, the simple answer is, you can actually BUY tires in 225/45r17.

Just something to think about....

i've got 225/45's.. Its not too skinny a profile to really worry about bending rims and what not. And it is very close to the stock diameter. And much easier to find.

I would stick with the 45 series tire. With that sidewall you could even stretch to a 235 width if you really wanted to.
