Yup, it sure does, as does the 2000 GT. I take it you're looking for a cheaper, used '98/99 rather than the brand spankin new expensive 2000.

I don't know of anybody here on the iClub board with a turbo'd GT. It could be done - the '98 and '99 use the exact same engine and drivetrain (with the exception of a longer driveshaft to reach the rear end) as the '98 2.5RS. I think the only potential sticking point is the intercooler positioning. The Japan/Euro-spec twin turbo Legacies use a top mount intercooler, just like the Imprezas do. However, just based on a couple pictures I've seen it appears to mount a bit differently - it's basically horizontal rather than slightly raised at the rear. I think that may be the Legacy has a lower profile hood, but I'm just guessing on that one. Anyway, the JC Sports and Minnam kits are designed to mount the intercooler on an Impreza, and so I think you'd have to fiddle with that a bit.

I'd like to turbo mine in a year or two, but I think I'm gonna wait and see what comes along next spring with the Impreza Turbo. I may just trade in my Legacy and grab one of those.

thanks Pat...Appreciate it...and Yes a used 98 or 99 5 spd would suffice nicely...

if I turbo'd it it would only be a stage 1 without the i/c...just so it can get out of it's own way... ..Are most of the Parts from the Impreza interchangable?????

Yep I've got a 5spd MY99 Gt, the Ltd edition no less!

It's basically the same engine layout as the Impreza- so why not T/C or S/C it? I plan to S/C it w/i a few years (gotta give my waranty a run for it's money 1st!)

Actually the 98 GT's have the same Phase1
block as (most of) the 98 RS', while the 99's have the stronger Phase2 block with the same DOHC heads... The 99 is the better choice for a TC/SC.

I did not realize that, BG5. That's kinda strange - do you know why they did it that way (using the new block but not the SOHC heads)? Still ramping up production, perhaps.

Scooby South - There are a lot of interchangeable parts, primarily in the drivetrain and suspension. The engines themselves are essentially the same (see BG5's post above), the tranny is the same, the shifter is the same, the differentials are the same, not sure about the axles (Legacy may be wider, hence use longer axles), and as far as I can see the front and rear control arms are the same. A Legacy rear sway bar will fit on an Impreza, but not vice versa from what I've gathered. However, the sway bar end links are identical.

The exhaust is essentially identical except for 2 differences - (1) the Legacy has a third cat on the front end of the intermediate pipe, and (2) the Legacy's muffler is about 4" longer. The header/manifold and cat pipe are the same, and the exhaust routes under the rear end exactly the same way. The muffler uses exactly the same kind of hangers at the very rear of the car, just the muffler is longer at the forward end (I think that may be why the rear sway bars are not interchangeable - the Legacy bar is bent to fit around the longer muffler (?)).

Anyway, there's a lot of stuff that's the same.

it was purely transitional, they stayed with DOHC since the Legacy EJ25's were being assembled in Indiana which is usually a year behind Gunma (which was building the Impreza EJ25's)

The 99 MT is also slightly different to match the new block.
