You don't. You change out the cluster. Not hard to do. It was a popular swap in the day to change out a WRX cluster for the STi one that had the Tach in the middle (and the pimp shift light.) Not saying anything like that happened per this particular thread, but that's what COULD have been done.

I got my car from them and I wouldnt be shocked if they just wanted to get you in to see that one and then woops that one jsut sold. For the longest time they had a 2003 with very low KMS on it and it was at a retarded proice and when i went it she was not there. But when I got home it was still up on the buysell site.
On a side note they were supposed to detail my car inside and out and they didnt even do a good job of washing the outside. I just payed a pro to do it and its spotless.

You can easily change the ODO reading on a digital spedo. Company in town does tons of them here for cars from the states. The just hook up their lap top, and change the KM. No need to swap out the cluster.

But that's switching from miles to kms. The total distance on the od would remain the same, right? You couldn't actually change the odo total cuz that's uh, illegal?

of course it's illegal, doesn't mean it's not done though (not uncommon either)
