that's a pretty broad question....
The pretty standard "BIG" tire for the WRX/STIs wind up being 245/255s. But.... i think some A Stock STI guys have squeezed 275 Hoosiers on their stock wheels. wouldn't recommend that for the street... |

there is a big thread in the motorsports thread.
but the Cliffnotes are 255/40 17 is about as wide as you want to run on the stock wheels. I have the 255 rt615s on my car and i'm lowered on STi pinks, fits like a dream. Rumor has it that a 48mm offset and 255s lowered on pinks doesn't fit. the stock +53mm offset works perfectly. |

275's will work on a 8 inch wide wheel on a stock STi, but needs to be a 48 offset. The stock 53 offset would rub against the strut. As WRX8Xb said i would not run anything more than 255's on the street on stock size wheels.

255 Falken 615's will rub when lowered on an 04 with 17x8 et 48 wheel. May fit on an 05 though. As others have said you really don't need more than 255 for the street.

I wanna chime in here. I have an 02' WRX with 8.5" Advan RCII's +48 with Bridgestone Potenza 245/40-17's, lowered with JIC's.
The rears just edged the fenders and after some hard driving you could see small, spaghetti like rubber on the outer corners of the tires. Well, I rolled my fenders this fall and they have not rubbed since.....I probably gained 5/16" of clearance. I was wondering if I could get some 255's in there? Anyone have luck with this width and are the STi fenders different from the WRX? Thanks! |

I was planning on a 17x8.5 wheel, 48 offset w/ a 255/40 tire; On a 05 sti stock springs. Should fit, right? I thought I'd do 255 the first set of tires, and if there's plenty of room try 265/275 next time...

All the Bridgestone Potenza models I looked at seem to be the wider than a comparably sized Falken Azenis, except for the new Azenis 615....it is consideraly wider. Thanks for the info!!!! |

I have an '04 as well and have been hanging back on buying 245's for the stock rim as it appears that I'd rub with the lowering that the JDM pinks gave me. |

the fender its self isn't wider, there is just less metal on the "lip" (the part people usually roll. |

Exactly. The inside lip provides structural integrity and a convenient place to put spot welds, but the '05/'06 STi's don't have the lip at all, the quarter panel comes straight down and stops, so there is an extra bracing piece added to the outside (ugly IMO). Funny thing is, there is no way in hell that the stock suspension/wheel/tire combo would ever touch this area, even under super aggressive driving, so they made the change to allow after-market spring/wheel/tire combo's. Bravo Subaru!
