Every engine and setup will be so differant, there is no way to tell what you should be running without using some knock detection devive like detcans or knockamp of sorts.

The only thing i can tell you from what you've written is that you can run the same or more timing past 5k than whet your using as ve wil be dropping off. ei if you don't have det at 5k with 18deg then you shouldn't have any det at 6k with 18deg. Dropping timing down like that past 5k will just make less power and cause higher egt's

also, if you're squirting alchy/water, you will need to lean it out and possibly need to advance timing to really take advantage of it. think 12.5:1 range.

however, if you're just using the ADI as a "safety blanket" then disregard.

i agree with rac in that timing generally needs to be more advanced as the rpms go past torque peak. this is partly because the piston speeds/crank angular velocities are literally faster and there needs to be more "lead time" for the spark to cause peak combustion pressure at the optimal 15* or so ATDC. in addition there's the effects of lower VE that he spoke of to overcome as well.

Default thanks

Thanks for the ideas guys,
it makes me think
18-20 just over peak torque should be around 5300 rpm,

then maybe go up toward 22 deg from 6000 to 7500 ???

Thanks
Bill

You cant play guessing games with timing and no one one here or anywere can or should tell you what to run. Its all part of tuning.

I agree.

I'll also be interested in hearing what your timing / EGT / HP ends up looking like.

.080" head gasket, huh? Wow. Not me.
