Default FS: DIY Standalone - $500 - Megasquirt V3.0

This is for a new tested MegaSquirt ECU with the Version 3.0 PCB.

This unit has all options including the current limiting components.

This unit is brand new and it has been built and tested according to the directions on V3.0 PCB Assembly Guide. The Ver. 3.0 PCB is the easiest version to upgrade to MS-II.

This is already pre-assembled.

This unit has all of the options for the MegaSquirt including:

All of the standard components
PWM flyback damping circuit components
Hall Sensor/Coil(-) and VR Sensor Ignition Trigger Components (jumpered for VR Sensor-I can reconfigure for any input you like just request in the notes when you purchase it if you don't ask it will come with the VR jumpered)
Current Limiting Circuit Components
IGBT high current ignition driver
You can learn more about the MegaSquirt and how it works at MegaSquirt Info.

The MegaSquirt II units also use the NEW ver. 3 PCB. Some of the new features of the V3.0 PCB are.

The circuit uses automotive temperature grade components (-40 to +125 degrees C)
The V3 boards are 2-ounce copper finish trace, compared to the 1-ounce finish of the V2.2 boards. These boards are the highest quality available anywhere.
The V3 PCB consists of four layers (top, bottom, and two inner layers), compared to only two layers on the V1.01 and V2.2 boards. The inner layers used for power and ground planes, and the top and bottom are used for signal routing.
The new V3 MegaSquirt board is virtually blow-up-proof! There is new circuitry incorporated which protect the injector drivers from short circuits.
The same current limiting is used on the fuel pump and fast idle drivers, limiting each to around 0.7 amps. Shorts to ground and/or excessive current draw will not damage the driver components.
The external sensor 5 volt reference line (Vref) is protected with a resettable fuse, also known as a polyfuse. The entire 5 volt digital ground plane line is protected against overvoltage by a 5.6 volt Zener diode.
The flyback and synchronous rectifier (flyback damper) circuits are now on the V3 board, so no external flyback board is required as was the case with version V2.2 MegaSquirt.
All of the high-current drivers (injectors, ignition) have very large PCB traces in order to handle the current demands for multiple low-impedance injectors.
To handle the heat from the injector drivers, a "busbar" heatsink arrangement is used in the V3 board. A simple aluminum flat bar is fitted on the top of the PCB and all of the heat generating components mount directly on this.
To keep in the spirit of do-it-yourself, a large prototype area is provided. This area is used to assemble various circuits in order to help customize the MegaSquirt for any application.
To support variable reluctance (VR) trigger inputs, a new VR circuit has been included on the board. This circuit will sense the zero-crossing signal point of a VR sensor and provide proper triggering.
To support the ignition capability of MS-II and MSnSE, a direct ignition coil driver has been added to the V3 board. This circuit uses a VB921 ignition coil driver to provide direct ignition coil control.
To support the use of Bluetooth or other wireless adapters, the serial connector (DB-9) has a source of 5 volts on pin 9 to provide direct power to external modules like the SocketModem Bluetooth Adapter.

People like you

People who are looking to have a full standalone at 1/4 the price. People who are true DIY'ers. People who want full control of their vehicle.

If I can't sell it locally in 3 days, its off to EBay where I'll take a huge hit probably. So, I'm open to offers.

Looks like any other ECU you'd find on the market. I got the option of having it full aluminum including the lid.

Do you have connectors for P&P, or does it require some serious wiring?

All I got is it pre-assembled, tested...I got the Megasquirt, the lid on top, and a cable to hookup for a laptop for tuning.

As far as I am concerned, the Megasquirt can be piggybacked from the stock ECU to run in parallel...so you can use the MS to run fuel and/or spark etc.

In my car, for it to control fuel, it shouldn't take more than a day with the proper plugs and schematics.

Just read up a bit on this thing and see it only has 2 injector drivers, which makes it suitable only for bank-fire rather than our SFI, and no built-in coil drivers. Apparently there`s a daughter board you can buy to interface with older GM HEI ignition modules.

edit: it looks like it can control one ignition coil natively ie. GM HEI, Ford TFI, MSD etc.

If only I knew about this when I had my 88GT Fiero it woulda been turboed with a standalone like this controlling it.

Looks like a V2.2 board though if that's the picture for your unit - V3 board has a heat sink up near the edge with a row of components. I'm not sure if it would work on a Subaru with stock triggers (WRX trigger or old 2.5RS trigger) without more parts, but with the Extra firmware it could have up to 6 spark output.

There is a local guy on Probetalk looking for a V3...I'll send him a link.
I built a V2.2 for a Mazda Turbo project.
