Ima' going to be swapping to the cocktail soon

Oh, the M1 has got to be the worst fluid for our trans. I tried it once and took it out after less than 100 miles. It's the worse! Guess it's too slick and thin?

I still have my reciept, so I can return it... I might end up having to just do redline and syncromesh, or just redline if the syncromesh doesnt come in on the next Autozone truck.

The LW Redline isn't too bad at all, put not perfect. I can tell it is also a little too slick for the synchros to work 100% correctly.

The Neo RHD I ran for 29K worked very good, but it also wore the synchros out faster.

Update: FOUND THE DAMN CASTROL HYPOY C!

It was at pepboys, a ton of it too... but the closest pepboys is ~15 miles away now since the closest one is gone. Stoped there on the way back from dropping off the tranny...

Now all I need is the syncromesh (tommorow supposedly at autozone)

So, the list of stores that have these brands are:

Pep Boys - Castrol Hypoy C 80w90
Autozone - Pensoil Syncromesh (AKA GM syncromesh)
Online (Also Tognotti's around Sacramento, CA) - Redline Lightweight Shockproof

Another satisfied customer... was having some major 4th gear grinding issues in my 04 Forester XT. Did a bunch of research and after finding all of the ingredients (no easy task!) she's running like new. Not a single cough, hickup or sneeze... just pure driving ecstasy

THANKS SCOTTY!

Default Tranny Problem Solved

My early 02 WRX (manufactured 02/01) now has 26500 miles ( i walk to work most days). Changed out the original tranny fluid over a year ago and that is when the problems started. Within a period of a month i tried the following fluids: EZ Lube's GL5 80W90(yeah I know-dee,de,dee); Neo RHD 75W90; Redline 75W90NS; and finally ran Redline MT-90 until now. The MT-90 seemed to be okay but recently have had trouble shifting into first from a complete stop and grinding going into first also have had grinding going into third under hard acceleration. Changed to Scotty's Cocktail this weekend and drove 100 miles because I couldn't believe the improvement. There is no hesitation at all going into first, no grinding going into first or third and the transmission is much much quieter. The car feels new again. Thank you Scotty!!

I'm gunning to try this cocktail next. My Subaru tranny experience is much the same as everyone else. I figure at this point I don't have anything left to loose. I'm going to start gathering the ingredients tomorrow. Perhaps, I can work in the change too. Either way, I'll be checking back with my review shortly. Wish me luck...

How long do most of you let the old fluid drain?

I got the last components to the cocktail coming today.

its in the thread, but it doesn't neccessarily matter if you get EVERYTHING out. Just let it drain for a bit to ensure you get as much you can.

i let mine sit for a few hours, watched a movie (burned one down) and continued with the cocktail

BTW, was there any sort of break-in procedure that is supposed to be done with the transmission after reinstalling it/putting in fluids?

For my STI

1 qrt redline heavyweight shock proof
1 qrt pensoil synchromesh
2.2 qrt silkolene race gear oil

Shifting when cold has been vastly improved.

Regular driving has also been improved greatly. To the point that if I don't watch it, the tranny will slip perfectly into 3rd instead of 5th, and mean it just drops in where as before there was pause enough to think about what gear you were trying to hit and blip the throttle to slide it in.

And now the tranny feels its absolute best when floggin it mightily. It makes the car feel stronger because the tranny itself just feels "lighter". Hard to explain but you all out there know what I mean..

Very satisfied with the cocktail variant. I am not sure if the heavyweight version of shockproof was the way to go but the past 2 oils I used shifted worse and worse as the temp rose. Heavyweight shockproof has proven itself in my motorcycles so I felt it was worth a try when combined with the lighter feeling silkolene.

I am happy.

How can subaru try to void the warrenty by saying that you use different grade transmission oil? Do they actually do some oil analysis on that if your transmission problem??

doood, I'm having the same problem. No Castrol in Vancouver Wa. Neither of us can find it.

So Scotty, I should substitue some kind of dino oil for the castrol? Or what would you recommend? How about redline mt-90?

edit: check it out, I posted at 6:06 on 6/6/06
