Replaced 6MT filled with Redline 75w90NS with my custom cocktail.

4th gear synchro issues after only 2k miles on the redline and never any problems prior to that with 34k on factory oil.

Used custom cocktail because I have Auto-X tomorrow and didn't want to wait for RL shockproof and other oils.

I used Valvoline 75w90 0.3qts, Valvoline dino 80w90 x 1 qt, Valvoline synthetic 80w90 x2 qts, and Penzoil Synchromesh x 1 qt.

After 1 mile the synchros were better. I felt bad watching the expensive redline drain out as it was as clean as when it went in.

I may replace the oil in a month with the Uncle Scotty's cocktail, at least the gears are working better for now. I hope the 80w90 holds up and that I don't have to replace it, but with ramps and a good jack, it's a 15 minute job.

"Finally, a transmission cocktail all in one kit! This mixture was created and tested by an aircraft mechanic to be the best.

While it can't do magic, this cocktail can mitigate gear grinds and difficult shifting. Suncoast Autosport's own WRX was experiencing gear ginding in 1st while sitting still. There was no way to shift into 1st at anything faster than a dead stop. After putting in the cocktail, there are no gear grinds and the car can be shifted into 1st gear at up to 20 MPH.

This is just one of the success stories that this mixture has generated. There are dozens of other cars that have been running the cocktail for up to 3 years. It just works."

Default Red Line, Syncromesh and Lucas Oil

Well, I ordered the Red Line items off Amazon for right at 26 including shipping. I wasn't going to order the other due to the three suppliers.

There is no HYPOYC in Kansas, but as someone else noted there is a product from Lucas Oil that is an 80W-90 (dino) which appears to match up very well with the Castrol.

(I tried to submit a Lucas Oil URL and I don't have enough submissions.)

So I tried NAPA and found they had the Pennzoil synchromesh ($6.00) and went to autozone for the 2 qts of the Lucas 80w-90 ($14.00) and they also had the synchromesh as an fyi. So, did it all for less than 50 bucks. Not bad.

So Scotty or someone could you take a quick look at the Lucas Oil product?? and see if any "contraindications" jump out... I tried to put the link in.

Now I just have to wait for the Red Line products and they said they would ship on the 22nd or 23rd. I hope I have them by next Mon or Tues.

And then when I take my 3K miles towing trip to Glacier, I'll let you all know when I get back how it went.

Hi,

Here are the specs on the Dino oil part of the cocktail. I dislike substituting ingredients in a cocktail, but am left with little choice. Will the Lucas Oil product be a good substitute?

They are letting me post URL's now... I'm kind of scratching my head on reading the Hypoy specs but.

Hmmm, I just put in 3.5 qts of SuperTech 75w90 Full synthetic API GL-5 an hour ago. Is this bad? Do I need to drain it and put in something else real soon or is it ok to drive for a week or so until I get more time?

That WILL overfill it---bad juju.

Add ~3.3 - 3.4...drive the car---check....repeat a couple times....make SURE it isn't too much before ya add more.

Add the lube SLOWLY into the dipstick tube or you WILL get more UNDER the car than IN the tranny

...and the rear diff can use GL-5 whatever.....I'd use a syn like M1
When you say dipstick... do you literally mean a dipstick in yoru tranny? or the dipstick where your motor oil is?

Default Rear Diff

Actually I believe the Red Line 75W/90 "NS" goes in the rear differential. Everything else goes in the transmission. But don't overfill.

Or at least that's what I'm going to do when it gets here.

Is anyone putting this together as a package anymore so I don't have to chase down individual things? Someone was doing this before. I am long overdue for this change out.
