Default SM5s All New “WRC” Photoshoot

Well, to tell you the truth, British Columbia, Canada is home for me still. All of you guys were really cool and I miss the cars and friendly people up there. The more I'm down here, the more I want to go back. But during breaks, I'm sure I'll show up to one of your meets or take a trip to Rockey Rally and say hello. Or to be more thrilling, fly from Langley to Squamish and have Tora pick me up from that little grass runway near town.

Well to get on with this, I finally installed the new vinyl on my car.Everything went really well and nothing major went wrong with this project; like something horrible would happen in the first place.

The Story is as follows:

Removed all the vinyl and made it look as close as I could to Richard Burns 99’ WRC. Couldn’t do much better since I don’t have the front or rear bumper or wide fenders. Later in life, I will have more time and money to complete that. But for now, I need to focus on my aviation mechanic schooling and get a job before I put more into the car.

When I bought the car in Missouri at the beginning of 2004, it came like this. Before the dealership put it up for sale to get more sales, they put a bunch of worthless vinyl on my car like neuspeed, summit, ect ect. First thing I did was made sure to take that stuff off as soon as I got home to Washington State in 33 hours…

From where it stood in Missouri

For about a year, I hardly did much since I had a gf. I accomplished picking up a v5 wing, painting the sideskirts, buying a momo shift knob and little things like that, but nothing too major.

From where it stood in April 2004. (“stock vinyl”)

After breaking up with my gf a year after that in March 2005, I figured out that being single wasn’t all that bad I found by working on my car and putting modifications here and there was kind of fun and the amount I learned was a lot too. So finally, I started participating in AutoXs, TSD rallies, rally crosses and whatever I could find.

So between all this, the car looked like this. (Made adjustments to the star configurations on the side of the car since the drivers side was flipped)

To make a long story short, I removed all the “stock vinyl” and kept it like this for a couple weeks before the new stuff would come on.

Went a little crazy since nothing right was happening that week

If you want a High Resolution of any of these pictures, you can either PM Yesitsdrew5310 or myself or email us at drew.brashler[at]Comcast[dot]net or bryandudas[at]hotmail[dot]com

For a complete list of modifications if you are wondering, here they are. As for engine and cost effectiveness, I’ll be using the stock EJ25 engine block before I do get rid of it and swap either a USDM or JDM swap in it. Whichever good deal comes first I’ll take it.

Before that week, I made myself with the help of Warp Grafix design a sticker in condolence to Richard Burns. God Bless him and his family

A few weeks later, Warp Grafix finally had the chance to print out the new vinyl. We tried our best to replicate the Richard Burns 99’ WRC. Yes, nothing was going to be perfect, but the hardest part in doing this was the door trim on the 2.5RS. If we were in Europe or Japan, we wouldn’t have to deal with such annoyance since they don’t have a door trim on their cars. I mean… if you really don’t believe me, take a look at OlivierGTs car from Switzerland. Lucky guys I’ll tell ya

Another issue on the vinyl was the masking over the doors. We had to place it over the door just right and let it air dry for 30 minutes or so. From then, we used an adjustable heat gun to make the vinyl flex so it could fit around the handle and after that we used a razor blade to trim the areas.

Note 1: When taking off vinyl, it’s best to use a steamer instead of any heat gun. By doing this, the adhesive will come right off.

Note 2: Use rubbing alcohol if any excess adhesive does stay on. Trust me, Warp Grafix knows what he’s doing and I learned a lot with this small project.

Well, to began with the after math, here are a few the shots Drew Brashler from RS25.com took on January 6, 2006 (Almost 3 years after buying the car).

Well that’s about it guys. Couldn’t make it better without the help of Drew. Have a good year and hope to see you at some meets this summer

Thanks guys. I'll be up there spring break hopefully.

Yes, we did use photoshop. Since it rained that day, there were a few water spots that we had to clean up.

When is the next TSD rally? Probably the Chilliwack? By then, I hope to have my skidplate back on. I had to modify it to fit my borla headers. Awesome, It's been awhile since I TSDed. It's about time I get back in shape!

Definantly looking hot. The JDM STi swap and Hoodscoop would make that car probably the nicest ever, oh and a widebody kit, I don't know if they use those in WRC but I think they look sexy. I can't wait to see it in person next week and go for a ride.

Hey guys. I'm the photog. Anyway I'm currently living down in Flagstaff, Arizona... so I have a feeling that most of you wouldn't drive down here for a shoot. But if you do, I know a nice fun road!

As for this summer, I'm going to be back up in Oregon for a few weeks. So I could arrange a few shoots.

As for the camera its a Nikon D70 and most of the shots were taken with a Nikon AF-S 80-200mm f2.8.
