Default Non Subie Tire question

I'm looking at getting a Mercury Marauder but I can't find a Winter tire solution.

The main tires are :

Tire Size (front): P235/50ZR18
Tire Size (rear): P245/55ZR18

Now no-one makes winter tires in these sizes.

I have been looking for a set of Bridgestone or other winter tires and the recomended size by other Marauder people is:

Tire Size (front): 215/65R16
Tire Size (rear): 225/70R16

Who makes the same tires in both these sizes and are these the right size?

Bridgestone does not.

Why not just run 215/65R16 all around for winter time.

Right - you don't need to stagger the sizes for winter - staggered sizes are really for looks only.

By the way - your OEM rear size is 245/45-18, not 245/55-18 - a little more common size, but probably doesn't help much with winter tires.

Now - will 16" wheels clear your front brakes? I know the Marauder's brakes are upgraded (larger) than a standard Marquis, so...

Says that the rear tire is 245/55-18.

Currently I'm looking at getting either a Marauder or a Lincoln Town car. Marauder is great for everything except winter and a slight reduction in back seat space. But Winter up here especially for RWD mean Winter tires. Winter can also last 10 months although not lately.

So if I pick up a Marauder I would need to know what tires wheels I would need to get for it and price that into the deal.

As for the different sized tires, I thought that the suspension would require the closest fit and thus two different sized tires? From what I've deduced from the other sites I've visited it is the tirewall rubbing against the suspension that is problematic and not the overall height. I could be wrong.

I don't know what sized brakes a Marauder has.

I'd buy a set of 17x8 Cobra wheels - around $120 each for polished versions, $100 each for painted, and use 225/50-17 tires - very common sizes, should be easy to find winter tires. Or, if 16s fit, 225/60-16 is very common.

The Marauder has the exact same brakes as the "normal" Panther platform cars (Crown Vic, Grand Marquis, Town Car). From another forum...
Quote:
2003 - 2005 Crown Victoria, including police, Grand Marquis including Marauder, and Town Car including limo package all use the same front rotors. Ford number is 3W1Z 1125 AA, for reference.
Since I know the Police Interceptors still run around with 16" steelies (my brother is a cop), I'm sure that 16" wheels will fit over the Marauder's brakes just fine.

I've tried to figure this out but can't. Is there another way to use the 18" rims and put on other 18" tires that would fit the Marauder?

Tire Size (front): P235/50-18
Tire Size (rear): P245/55-18

so instead of these use a skinner 18" tire with higher sidewall number?

Like a P200/60-18 Front
and P205/65-18 Rear

or 17" tires and wheels.

???

Looking for a High performance winter high silica tire. Or does that mean only 16" wheels / tires?
