Impreza GC8 I have the option to buy back my totalled car...any interest?

My insurance company is offering to let me buy back my car for $550. I dont have a place to keep it though. Im posting this here to see if anyone wants to buy it through me possibly and do what you want to it or if theres any interest in picking parts off it if i bought it.

Engine and tranny/drive train may have suffered damage as the engine is pushed back slightly.

Im guessing there wont be much interest but I have til friday to do this.

Can you get any better pictures?
There is way more than $550 worth of parts there.

Buy it back and part it out. You will make money on it. How much is the insurance giving you for it if you don't buy it back?

This is a blinding flash of the obvious but if you buy the car back for $550 then you're immediately in the hole by $5050. Do you have the time and resources to dedicate to disassembling the car and parting it out for $5050 worth of parts? If you've got a place to store the shell then you can easily just say to people "pay me $X and pick what you want" but that will still entail hours upon hours of people removing what they want over the course of weeks or months.

As much as I'd love to toss a hundred bucks your way and rape some bits I'd hate to see you lose money on the deal just for the sake of helping out your fellow Subaru brethren.

I dont see how I would be in the hole for $5050? Id be down $550, the cost of the car. I would still get the rest of my insurance money.

I thought you said they'd offer you $5600 if you didn't buy it back; I inferred that you didn't get a payout if you did buy it back. Do you still get the full $5600 if you buy it back?

If so then go for it. You could easily rape $550 off that car.

I would still get the money if I do buy it back, just minus the cost of the car ($550), so Id get paid $5050 for the car.

Can anyone remember when this exact same thing happend to another member, parting out a 98 RS. I remember there was one on NESIC a while ago where the guy stripped it down. I also know MattK did this a while back too. If anyone can find the link to one of those threads it would be nice, so i could get an idea of prices for different parts.

If you didn't want the hassle of parting it out then just take the money and use it for a down payment for another car.

If you wanted the usable parts to go to suby owners that would appreciate them then buy it back and part it out.

I'm going to check with my parents to see if they'd let me keep this in our driveway/garage. If so, I'd be interested in buying it thru you and parting it out. I'll get back to you ASAP.

Does anyone know how much it costs to sell the wreck to a junkyard (after done parting the car out)? I need to work out the figures to see if its worth it for me to part this car out.

Take it from someone who's parted out 3 neons, an Impreza and an Integra........(and has 14 acres and no homeowners association to tell me not to do so)......

It ain't easy work and you will make far less than anyone (who hasn't done it themselves) will tell you. I kept spread sheets after thinking that I had made a fortune on the first car. Well, thinking and actual are worlds apart. Unless you have someone who's interested in giving you at least half that $550 up front for some amount of parts, pass on it. That's likely all you'll yield.

After that's done, the carcas of the car will go to the junkyard. Got a car trailer? I do. The yard will take it for free IF you deliver it to them and have the title to the car. Otherwise, expect to pay at least $100 for it to be taken away.

I'm telling you all this to save you some disappointment, work, gashes in your forehead (one neon hood violently attacked me....) and hassles. I've mentioned this before......1/2 of people who have interest now will disappear. 1/2 of people who later have interest in a particular part and commit to buying it will disappear. 1/2 of those left will keep in contact with you but will become sick, go back to school, have an accident, need to buy gum......all valid reasons not to come get the part and pay you. Of those left, you'll need to reduce prices because shipping to East Oshkosh costs so much.

Feel free to PM me with any questions about parting cars. Note: I am not currently parting anything.

jack

I think Jack is right. But I could help with short term storage. And I sure don't need a project, but:
Mileage?
Manual, Auto tranny.
Does the door open and close ok?
Does it need a windsheild?
Does it yard drive?

Jack makes sense. I know I could get my monies worth out of the car, but I have a project car.
It sucks to think it'll go unloved in a boneyard
