Default FS: FWD MY90 Legacy 2.2 L Wagon (bad motor, minor body damage, parts car)

First, the good:
  • Very little rust; dings and paint flakes touched up
  • Yokohama A550H tires with one season on them
  • KYB GR-2 struts with one season on them

Now, the bad:
  • Bad motor; pretty sure I spun a bearing when it hemorrhaged oil all over the highway and I didn't catch it for a few days
  • Driver-front fender damage (not shown in above photo)
  • Passenger-front door damage (paint flaking and dings)
  • Brake pads probably rusted to rotors after sitting for so long
  • Mileage: yes

I'm either selling her as a parts car or donating her to Helping Hands Monkeys as a tax writeoff. Just wanted to gauge interest to see if anyone wanted a shell to rape for parts. The only catch is you have to take the whole shell; I'm not parting her out.

Currently sitting on my Mom's driveway in Nashua and she wants it gone. Make an offer.

Edit: Although the motor is bad the car will drive...but it sounds like someone rattling a tin can full of pennies.

Ha! Not bad for a 16 year old Legacy, yes? Yeah, she was grandmother-driven up until last year. It wasn't until I got her and started daily driving her 80+ miles per day that the leaky seals actually became apparent and literally blew out overnight. I religiously changed the oil and three days after an oil change the motor started knocking, there was oil all over the sides of the motor (nothing near the filter), and she was down to less than a quart.

If I had the time and driveway space (read: no rally car) I'd fix her up and drive her for another 100k miles.

Yeah my late 90 Legacy L ended its life with two malfuntioning injectors and a bad ring. Twas a new beginning for Subaru though!

I have a 90 with a good motor and a newer tranny. I'm going to part out or sell the whole thing. If you want to keep the car and you need parts let me know. I'll sell it cheap.

D'oh! If I was in a bigger house with a yard I'd so buy yours for the parts. Unfortunately I can't do it...not enough space at Casa de Trunkmonkey. Thanks for the offer though!

Wow, I'd jump on it Sean, if it weren't that I live so far away now. Not so sure I'm in to driving that engine great distances.

I say donate it!

I'm looking to get the satisfaction of knowing that the car is going to a good home. Seriously. Make an offer. No offer too low.

Will it make it to Burlington, VT if driven like SubEd (snakey bodies of water notwithstanding)?

I doubt it. Although the motor might survive I wouldn't trust the brakes since she sat in my driveway for 4 or so months before getting driven to my Mom's house. Major shaking and poor braking due to chunks of brake pad flaking off the pad and rusting to the rotor. The rotors would need to be immediately turned to remove the rusted-on chunks.

More pics for Fuzz541 and moodyracing:

New KYB GR-2 suspension (now stock springs instead of pictured Whiteline springs):

The car is no longer this low; the ride height is back to stock with the stock springs and KYB GR-2 struts:

A few more at: http://www.trunkmonkey.com/gallery/20040418-RallyPrep

Those are the only pics I've got.

And one more. This shows the passenger-side door paint chips and scuffs (only cosmetic) from where the mirror got clipped off by a guy in a trunk who opened his door into traffic. The mirror has been replaced!

So, theoretically, the car needs a new short block (simpler than a rebuild) and brakes, right?

Again with the miles: ___,___,___. Just curious.

Them motor mouse belts working ok? I'm still interested if it's going to be a couple of basic things to get it in commuter shape (shortblock, brakes, one or two etc's.). If a million things are ready to go awry, I'll pass it to the monkey folks.

Thanks for the info, Sean.
