Default RallyCross Series Oct 13 and 27th, 2001 in Ottawa

The National Capital Subaru Club is holding is first RallyCross series this fall of 2001 in the Ottawa region.

Both events dates will be on Saturday, October 13th and 27th. We are reserving the number of competitors to 20 (for both events).

What is rallycross? Good question...

Rallycross is almost identical to solo2 (or autocross) but the event is staged on a gravel or grassy field. In our case, the event is held in our farmer's field.

Cost? For all Subaru Club members, CARS affiliated club members, if you compete for both events, it will cost you $50 ($25 per event)(if you register for both) or $30 per event. For non-affliated members, the cost is $60 for both events or $35 for one event.

What safety equipement is required? A snell 90 Helmet (SA or M rated) or above.

Should I get skid plates? We recommend them. Why do you recommend in using skid plates? Can I dammage my car? We recommend in using them since in Motorsports, the chance of damaging your car is always existant (even in solo2). Better safe than sorry. In our course design, we have marked the 3 spots where there's rocks in the 15 acre field. The course is laid away from the three obstacles.

Tires? What should I use? We recommend to using your winter tires. You can use your all season tires but you wont have the same level of grip as other with winter or rally tires. Rally tires are permitted at this event.

Where is the event held? Both events are held in Metcalfe, Ontario (just south of Ottawa, about 15 minutes away). Directions and maps will soon be up on the Ottawa site.

Metcalfe is easily accessible from the 417 highway (coming into Ottawa).

If you're interested in competing, and require more information, please email at robin@ottawasubaru.com

More information will be posted on the www.ottawasubaru.com website. If you want to register for the event, here's our online form:

Well, I'm dealing with Lachute now for the plates, so technically, pricing is up to them.

But, it should be something like $140-150 for the PRE-MY02 plates, and maybe $170 - 200 for MY02+ plates.

I have an order for (3) WRX plates and (4) RS plates for Lachute. They should all be ready in the next two weeks. I have the possibility of DOUBLING those quantities if there is interest.

Maybe a group buy is in order?

Hey Robin,
I'll show you guys what Gooseman's plate looks like. I need his plate for Maniwaki Rally(I'm not crazy, just taking the class...). So I'll have one of his plate for this week-end (right Gooseman? ). I'll show you at the next club meeting.

How diffiuclt is it to install these plates? Do they use existing bolts?
Does anybody use the plates for the winter? (For get through snow and ice) or does it just fill with snow?

to answer your questions:

Yes, they do use the stock bolts (sort of) and bolt locations. The WRX plate uses the same bolts that hold on the plastic shroud underneath the car. Two more M8 bolts are required for the rear of the plate. The GC8 RS plate uses stock bolt locations, but requires 4 M8 bolts. All bolts can be purchased at a local hardware store (Lachute may supply bolts). The plates just bolt up to the car, no drilling or tapping needed.

I've had the GC8 plate (the bottom pic) on my car for about a year, so, yeah, I did go thru last winter with it. No problems at all, saved my ass a few times sliding over sidewalks and stuff, and helped me park atop many frozen snow banks! I love it!

Robin,

I think I would like to try a RallyCross, but I have ABSOLUTELY no experience racing my Subie. I've drag raced it a few times, and I've taken my old Saturn to Gingerman Raceway a few years ago, but other than that I dont have much experience.

Is this an actual competition, or is it just for fun? I dont wanna be the only moron on the field!!

Oh, and you say you reccomend winter tires. What will we be runing on? Hard packed mud, or gravel or grass? I should have my brand new Nokian Hakka's by then, but I dont want to kill them before winter starts!

Thanks!

Gooseman,

This competition is mainly fun...... most will be rookies.... We have some people who have done some in the past and including rally sprint competitions...

but most including myself have never done a rallycross..... We first intended this event to be fun event for the NCSC members.

The set up will be the same as a solo 2 competition but it's a field... Right now, it's a wild grass field but after a few runs, the grass will get shreaded.....

If it rains a lot, it will be muddy........

This pic was taken in the field beside it 2 years ago..... but it's the same conditions.... it was pretty soft that day (in the fall) since it has rained a few ago (pretty hard).

STI2_5RS, you're more than welcome in coming out..... it might give you the itch for the event.....

Gooseman,

I put a space aside for you.... so far we have 3 WRX, a bunch of RS, Corolla GTS, Golf GTI entered......

It's going to be an AWD fest...... I had 2 others (first gen DSM) but I haven't see their registry form.....

I don't think we'll be maxed out for the first event but it might give an itch to others for the 2nd event on the 27th..........

Default Update.....

Well, the rallycross is 75% full..... to this date, the October 13th event has only 5 spots remaining.....

If you need more information, please check our website at:
www.ottawasubaru.com or email myself at robin@ottawasubaru.com

On October 13th, all participants should arrive at the site by 8:30 - 9am (at the latest).... This will give you a chance to walk the course, finish your registration (if not completed), have car inspected and sign the waiver form....

Map and direction should be posted on our website..... We will have a BBQ there on site (if you need to cook hotdogs, hamburgers, etc....) and we will have a portable toilet on site since Restaurant are only available in town....

If you need a hotel for the night, let me know and I could suggest a few close location of the 417 or downtown Ottawa if you want to see the city.....

I forgot to mention that each participant will have 5-6 runs during the day..... from 10am to about 4pm.....
