Default only 8 psi boost stock?

has anyone else noticed this after they installed their boost gauges?

i finally managed a way to satisfactorily mount my gauges in the factory pod, and once i did, i thought my gauge was bust, as i only was seeing 8psi max. so, i went and coughed up for another one so that i could compare.

well, that one showed me 8psi too!

so, now i have two boost gauges, and 15psi. i made a quickie MBC with a brass valve so that i could attempt to get some real boost going on. i have it set so that it now peaks right at 15psi.

the car feels totally different now.

anyways, if anyone else has seen this 8psi issue, chime in. i am dying to know if it is just me, or everyone.

i only see about 8psi when in first gear but all other gears i'm able to hit just shy of 15psi without problem.

The stock wastegate spring pressure is around 7-9psi, so if you somehow are running a straight hose from the turbo outlet to the wastegate, you'll only see that much pressure.

I had this same problem after installing my guage and found that the whit plastic line that runs to the guage was kinked and so wasnt showing full boost. I would check that before trying to crank up the boost as you could be running dangerously high without a properly reading gauge.

Just noticed... you posted in the Factory Forced Induction forum, but it says you've got a MY98 RS... Are we talking about a WRX or an RS-T?

if he's running 15psi on an RS-T he's going to have other problems...

the 98 is my wifes car. when i registered, that was all that we had.

now she still has her 98, and i have a wrx. i couldn't find a way to add my car, and still keep hers as my profile.

thanks for the thought tho.

no, isn't a straight shot from the turbo outlet to the wastegate. i have a home-made boost controller.

i have also checked the nylon line for the boost gauge. first thing i do when i install something, is assume that i messed it up. so, that being one of the primary parts of a gauge install, that is what i confirmed first. it is ok.
