Default 05 STi Tire Width Fitment

First off I've searched a bit but I can't seem to find an answer I'm comfortable with.

I'm trying to decide on new tires (no R compound), these tires will be used exclusivly for track days and autoXs. I think I have decided to go with the Falken Azenis RT-615s. The next thing I've been working on, and where my question is, is what is the widest tire width can I fit on an 05 STi with stock 17"x8" rims without having ANY rubbing issues? Currently the suspension setup is stock but soon I will go to Whiteline Group-4s with a 1" drop and I would like the tires to fit both setups. From what I have seen 235s will fit, 245s probably will, and 255s may. I'm just trying to get a more concrete answer.

Cliff Notes: What is the widest tire width can I fit on an 05 STi with stock 17"x8" rims without having ANY rubbing issues?

Thanks,
Evan

I ran the 255/40R17 azenis for the whole year, first on Pinks, then on Pinks with Racecomp camber plates (which lower the front a little more). My total drop was about 1" front and about 10-15mm rear. I had just a TINY bit of rubbing on the front mudguards, but not even enough to rub it through - just scuffing basically when the suspension bottoms out. I'd imagine that with the whiteline group4's, the higher springrates would prevent that rubbing, but you may run into clearance issues between the tire and strut.

The tires fit the rims pretty well, but i definitely would not go wider than that. In fact, next time around I'll probably get something in 245/40 instead.

except that the 615 does not appear to be available in that size.

I can let you know how the 245/45 works for me sometime in May...

Hmm, well I guess I'll have to try the 245/45R17s then.

If I could I would wait untill May for your answer but I'm going to get the tires in the next couple of weeks.
