Exclamation Stromung Exaust for 2kGT

I really like the sound of the Stromung, but we don't have the cutout for a "normal" tip on a muffler, so I wrote Stromung e-mail and asked what they were doing about it...

The basically said "What do you want us to dao about it?" BUT, it was not a sarcastic blow-me-off e-mail... they seriously want input for what they can do for us as far as their systems.

I figured that I would post here before I worte back with just my input so that eveyone could say what they felt.

Unforunatly, I there are *very few* 2kGTs on the list, so we need everyone that has a 2kGT to give input.

Jim - we know you put a system on your wagon, do you happen to have a pic of that? From what you said you just welded on a 90deg bend after the muffler...

Let me know what you think...

I would like to see a bolt-on muffler for the '00 Legacies that would be similar to their existing product for pre '00 Legacies. I imagine that it can't be too difficult since the biggest difference would be a modified muffler tip design that would clear the bumper.

I was thinking more along the line of this:

Move the muffler body forward a couple of inches (I looked at the bracket-hangers, and they could just be elongated) and then make the tip bend down to a 45deg angle like the stock muffler. I was crawling around under my car and looking at the back of the bumper, and there is a bit of a clearance cutout (probably for heat purposes) in the colored bumper material.

What this does not address though is the issue of that beautiful Stromung tip. -sigh-

PS - I am going to e-mail Stromung the link for this thread so they can look at our comments.

Oh - Jason:

I don't think just dropping the muffler body down would do the trick, as far as looks go... I think it would also take a few changes in the system from the cat-back (as far as a few minor bends...)

Andy,

Did you check out the Syms exhaust for the 2K Legacy? I think it's on SPO Motorsports' site. I think you can still have the nice Stromung tip if it is placed low enough on the muffler body similar to the Syms.

2 mid sized tip will not be so obvious as a single large tip to cops.

I have the single tip for my 97 GT. It's not much bigger than the stock GT tip. I have seen the dual tip Stromung and the tips on that are smaller but I think cops would notice that more. just my 02.

Other than the fact that it is twice as expensive ($700+ vs ~$350)...

I'd almost need to see one on the car. I would prefer all SYMS stuff, but it is *so* damd expensive.

Anyone know if the SYMS is stainless? That is one thing that I would worry about with the Stromung, I live in Seattle, and Rain + Salt-air = rust.

All Japanese brand is design to fit the Japanese spec Legacy. Jap-Legacy's rear bumper has a curve to clear the muffler tip. US-spec Legacy does not have the hole for it, so nothing from Japan will fit our Legacy.
(I am kinda guessing here.....)

The Legacy crossover pipe is diffrent than the RS. So a tip change will not work. You could buy the SYMS or STI world market muffler and change the tip.

I talked with SPO about 2K Legacy parts and was told they have sent a US Legacy to SYMS to make-up headers and a complete exhaust system. Along with some body parts.

You could just wait or make your own. I'll check with my muffler man and see if he still has the first muffler we did. If he does I'll get it for you(Randy) if you want.

I just wrote Dale Teague e-mail, I am sure he has pondered this few times... We'll see what he has to say about the STi turbo-wagon exaust.

I almost think this is all a moot point right now, I just bought a computer, and I am getting married at the end of April (--cough-- getting married is expensive). *but*, to answer your question Jim, if the price was "right", I would think about it ("right" depends on the moment... )

A easy fix is making the hanger longer, but it also lower the clearance between ground and muffler. Actually I like to have the dual tip design over single tip.

2 mid sized tip will not be so obvious as a single large tip to cops.
