Default Axle Seal Replacement Info Needed

Hey guys,

I just swapped in a USDM STi 6-speed and transplanted the stubs into the diff with circlips. It turns out the axle seals were bad when I got the tranny as it leaks out both axles.

What are the part numbers needed for hte correct axle seals and o rings? Has anybody done this? If anybody can give me a step by step replacement process it would be greatly appreciated or even just give me a clue haha.

Scott

The part number for the front diff seals with stub axles
left axle seal 806730041 $6.00
Right axle seal 806730042 $6.00

On a MT-6 trans it would be best to remove the two axles you just installed
Then you can remove the old seals, then use a seal installer to tap them in.
Do not drive them all the way in, they need to be flush with the diff retainers,
when installing the stub axles make sure the open side of the clip i is pointing down
with a bit of a twist going past the outter area of the seal.

once you are cleared the seal then you can use your soft face hammer to send them home.

Good luck

Rob

Rob....I love you in the most heterosexual way possible right now. Thanks a ton homie!!

Oh yeah, one last thing. How do I remove the stub axels since they are already installed with circlips?

i just found out that early 04 seal part numbers are different than late 04 -06 axle seal part numbers... hmm.
i have an 06 transmission with the 04 axle stubs... which seal is correct?
currently using 06 seals which are both leaking. i purchased 04 axle seals, not sure if they will fix the problem or make it worse.
any input? any 05-06 sti tranny guys using the 04 stubs? and with which seals?
and yes, the seals are visibly different...

damn. this might explain why my front axles leak as well. I was afraid this was the case, I just never followed up with my parts guy (calling him now)

In late 04 they switched to male axles with no axle stubs. apparently the mating surface is different.

I can only surmise that if you are using WRX axles (female style axles) and you had to purchase axle stubs, then to use the EARLIER 04 6MT axle seals.
