Default 35watt HID kit vs 50watt HID kit

Ok I have EDM STi non-hid headlights for my bugeye. Normally HID kits are 35watt (i think).. well i have a 50watt kit coming and since the stock wiring is for the 50watt halogen bulbs etc i shouldn't have any problems with burning any wires right?

or am i wrong?

thanks!

are you sure they are hid and not a "hid conversion" kit. these kits use high wattage halogen bulbs with blue case and an upgraded harness to create the "look" of hid. i would stay away from these. i personally have never heard of anything but a 35w hid kit.

You will have problem with the wiring. Hids draw alot power on startup.

I had heard of a 50w HID a while ago, but I heard they had seriously short bulb lives. The memory is fuzzy, I'll see if I can find out anything else later after work.

but only at startup. Vs high wattage bulbs that always draw a lot of power.

yeah the kit is the real deal, my friend is the owner of the company and he sells 35watt and 50watt kits. I'm not worried about bulb life cause i can get bulbs whenever i want.

These 50watt HID kits produce 40% more light output then 35watt kits, i'll take a bunch of pics of the halogen vs the 50watt kit when i install it.

But yeah I was mainly concerned with the wiring but it seems like it should be just fine, especially if those higher watts come just when you start up.

anyone else have any input/experience?

if it comes with its own harness and relay set then I would think you should be fine. Let us know how that turns. out.

wow, 50watt HIDs? That would be something I'd want to look at. Do you know of a source for 50watt D2S capsules and ballasts?

The bulbs are Xtec.

I'm not sure about the source of everything but I know he gets it from over seas. The 50watt kits come with 50watt ballasts etc.

I'm pretty sure not many subaru guys know of the company since he mainly deals with bmw/audi/vw/mini/porsche/etc no japanese cars.

Have you got any pics yet?

I just ordered an Xtec 50w HID Kit for my HB3 High-Beams should hopefully be a nice upgrade, aparently the 50w HID's put out somthing between 5200-5700lm .... that's a fair bit more than a 60w Halogen's 1500 odd lumens!

Not enough light on the right side of the road as i have it this way, i just wanted to see how driving at night would be different with it set up like this.

this is the xtec 50watt 6000k kit

Mine's not for projectors no, it's for my high beam, and my fog lights so their not going to be used the majority of the time, at least not with cars coming in the opisite direction... but for the time when there are no other cars in the opisite direction the amount of light output should be awesome i ended up ordering 2x sets, the HB3's for the headlights, and the H3's for the fog lights.... should be intresting to see the results... i'll be posting up pics once i've installed them

If you want the Xtec kit, go to www.legacygt.com and check out the vendor classifieds. RPM sells them on there with special pricing and that's where I got my 4500K kit, which is great.

Many Legacy folks use them and like them a lot. There''s a very long thread about them.

Ok,

I havnt got pics yet... so dont ask lol, but i've got the 50w 5000K Xtec Kit installed on my high-beams in my 06 WRX, Shock & Awe would best describe them... im simply AMAZED at what a difference they make... these things are *INSANE* massive improvement over stock high-beams .... and the colour is perfect super-bright-white...

Any questions... just ask me also.... if you want pricing, PM me... i buy them wholesale, so i might be able to get you some good pricing on them.... judging by what the other websites are quoting, i think my pricing is pretty damn good

SiriX
