Default SE WI: Cheap truck!

It's time to sell my beater so I can buy a tow vehicle.

PRICED TO SELL!---$600

1987 Mazda B2000 Cab Plus 2WD short-bed.

5MT, 101K miles. Runs good. Body is straight. Some rust around the rear of the bed. I sanded and painted rust spots around the rear wheels and lower body panels.

Charcoal gray. Maroon interior (bucket seats). Interior is clean, seats look like you'd expect for a vehicle with 100K miles, but not in bad shape.

The 2L 4cyl engine isn't fast, but it's reliable & gets decent mileage (last tank was over 21 mpg).

Neither is your other one!!
Ba-doom-ching!

j/k I have no idea how fast your other one is. I'd also be willing to bet it'd beat the pantses off mine.

bump for a reliable daily driver that was born in the same year I was

does it need anything? I am sort of looking for a beater truck through the summertime, but I'd rather not buy something that needs its cost in maintenance in the next 6 months.

The engine is solid. I've had the truck almost two years. I just replaced the PCV, fuel filter, and air filter. The oil seal on the distributor was leaking, so I replaced that and the vacuum advance. The clutch is original, but engages in the middle and shows no signs of needing replaced anytime soon. It doesn't burn oil. There is a slight leak around the valve cover gasket, but nothing major. You could replace it or leave it.

The right front caliper has been sticking occasionally, so I bought a new one and plan on replacing that in the next couple of weeks. I don't know what the status on the rest of the brakes are, but they would be cheap to replace if necessary (caliper w/ pads was $50).

Unfortunately, the right front tire is worn from the frozen caliper. It's not at the wear bars, but it will need replacing before the others (the rest are half worn).
If I keep it I will probably replace them sometime this summer. Size is 205/75/14, so you can get decent tires for $40/each.

The exhaust is rusty, and the tailpipe fell off at the muffler last week. So you would have to fix that to get it emissions tested.

If you're seriously interested, I can talk to a local guy to see how much it will cost to have him weld in a new muffler & tailpipe. I would be willing to cover that if it's not too much.

I'm also willing to negotiate on the price if you want it as is.

When I see that truck, the word "perfect" never really comes into my mind.

Well, I can honestly say 4x4 and toyota were two of my criteria in finding a beater truck. But in the event that I can't manage to get something going on that front, we will be in touch. The fact that it is carbed is a bit offputting as well.

Yep, it's carbed. It has a manual choke, installed by the previous owner, but it works fine and hasn't caused me any headache.

Good luck in your search...there aren't a lot of these old trucks around...and most people want $2K for anything that runs. More if it says "Toyota".

Really? I just test drove a '94 dakota that was going for $900. Appearance was a little rough, but it drove like a champ and didn't need any work. The v6 had decent power to it too.

I think foreign trucks may fetch higher prices though.

Wow...I didn't know the domestics were that cheap.

Imports do sell for more, mainly because Toyotas are bulletproof.

How rough? Worse than mine?

How many miles?

Honestly, I didn't check prices too much before I posted this here. I may be completely off base in how much I can get for the truck.

Masuo has been trying to convince me the truck is worth $650 all afternoon.

Oh, I guess I forgot to mention it in the original post, but it's an SE-5 and I also have a cap.

kbb has a bit of variance on your truck, depending on condition

a yo truck would be substantialy more, mark had a POS y0 truck that sold for more then yours and it was in pretty sad shape.

Good luck man!

I am looking for a truck and was just trying to understand where the price came from, seeing that I was able to find newer model domestic trucks so cheap...

Well... all the panels are the same color . A couple more dings/dents, but a beater truck isn't supposed to look pretty right?

Wasn't trying to convince you of anything; I kept my queries as PMs as I thought it was a misunderstanding. And it was, on my part: I wasn't searching for the right model and I didn't add the liner/cap!

Good luck with your sale!
