Default Coolant Problem; so what do these symptoms add up to

The car smells like sweet like coolant in the underhood area for the last 2 weeks after every time I drive it. I noticed my coolant was low about a week ago and filled it up. Since then it has dropped about 3/8 of an inch from the full mark on the overfill tank. The coolant temp has stayed constant througout. I don't see a line leaking anywhere and I certainly don't smell any coolant in the oil. I am running a Cobb AP stage 2 with a turboback exhaust. Any thoughts?

In any case I am replacing the spark plugs this weekend as they could probably use it at 40,000 miles. I am also going to jack the car up and look around a bit more. I suppose I could buy a flourescent leak detection kit, but I don't really want to.

Anyway thanks for your input.

Temperature is such a huge effect on the volume in your overflow tank that unless you verified the temperature at the before and after check, I woulnd't consider it critical.

I wouldn't expect this from someone in Savannah, GA, but I often get the coolant smell in the winter on extremely cold days when I floor it. Not much, mind you, but a little. I've always assumed that it's a little bit of coolant seeping past a hose clamp.

Recently it has been unusually cold so that could very well be the problem. I think that it is probably a very small nuisance leak. The car really has been rock steady other than just the smell. I was also thinking there could be a small crack in the turbo allowing some gas to escape. In any case at some point I will check the system with dye and let everbody know just in case someone else runs into the same problem.

Thanks,
Eric
