Default How fast are they going?

I saw the WRC rally in Finland this weekend. Saw Team Subaru come in second. Yeah! I'm fairly new to the sport, wondering how fast are these cars going through these courses? All they ever show is their times against each other. I understand that's how they measure the standing, but I just curious.

I was at the Wild West Rally last weekend, and someone had a radar there, Lovell went through the trap at 133mph ! on GRAVEL !!! i suspect the WRC cars would be a little quicker !

They reach some pretty insane speeds in the straightaways. You see all these parts break and stuff fall off the car and wonder how come it doesn't happen to your car when you drive around in the dirt. It looks much slower on TV, plus you usually only get to see shots from the spectator areas. The helicopter footage is good though, when they follow the cars and the helicopters seem to have a bit of trouble staying ahead of them.

The answer is that those guys are going insanely fast!

You should see the safari rally, they fly on that one! I think some stages in safari are longer than entire other rallies.

The WRC website lists stage times in its results section, but doesn't list stage lengths. Then you could at least figure out average speeds.

But, like everyone else says, they go fast!

Try going to http://www.rallylive.com this weekend. You can follow the rally of New Zealand. They list the length of the stages on their site, so you can figure out the average speeds. They will be seriously high, New Zealand is fast!

That pretty much confirms that those guys are completely insane.

i remember watching the sweeden rally on speedvision and they showed a clip of from inside the car looking out, from the driver's point of view, while flying through a blinding snowstorm. i was thinking of the times i was driving through a blinding snowstorm at a crawling pace. yet the drivers were flying down the road, i was laughing at how calmly insane they must be...
