Default Found a 94 Impreza for <1000 dollars

How hard would it be to make this AWD with a better motor?

Find a Front wrecked AWD impreza and grab everything tranny-back. Next either find a front clip of a Ver 1-2 or just an EJ20G engine with harness and ECU, most engines can be found for under 1000. The swap is very easy and I personaly have had very good sucess with these older engines. You will have a pretty fast impreza for very cheap, and the engine is becoming very popular in the states so go fast parts are readily available. Its not a bad way to spend 2-3k and have a very fun car imo.
Thanks
Rick

There are plenty of threads on the AWD conversion. It's not terribly hard, but you generally do need to change the gas tank.

I bought a '95 last week. It happens to be AWD, but for less than $1000, I still would have bought it if it was 2wd. I say grab the car and start building...

welded? who the heck welds a rear axel in. perhaps if you are thinking in those terms, it would be adviseable to just look for an AWD one.

either that or you misscommunicated and were thinking about EVO floorpan swap. those are not for the faint of heart.

i was never really sure with this, but if you get a full complete front clip cant you make sure you get the whole rear end, then its just a matter of getting the gas tank to convert a FWD to AWD with the front clip parts?

i dunno, i have a 95 FWD, and a 95 wrecked AWD so im gonna be doin the regular swap anyways, just curious.
