Default FS 98 Legacy GT first $1500 takes it

guys, please read my other posts, i am selling this car with a working engine now as i realized today when i was cleaning it that it just needed gas, i didnt know my neighbor was stupid enough to let it run out of gas and think is engine was gone due to oil leaking. so it is what it is. go here for pictures:

original post:

Hey guys, i bought this and now i am trying to sell it. i was gonna try and fix the engine or drop in a new one and then sell it for 4.5k or so. but i dont have the time/space. My dad is getting on me for having my impreza parked and driving the beater jeep because i got in an accident so this one has to go. i wanted to wait til after i finish my impreza's ej20 and body work and do this but i just dont want to deal with it anymore. this would be a perfect candidate for resale, fix or turbo swap. it is a 98 legacy.auto, sunroof, 4 wheel brakes, 16 spokes wheels, black interior still in great condition. i was thinking about parting it out too but i dont want to have to deal with the left over parts later on and my time taking all the parts off and shipping them. i spoke to the previous owner again but this time his wife and she suspects it was the timing belt that went, not the oil, so maybe it can still be fixed? i have no time to look or care at this point. i am located in silver spring md. anyone is welcome to come by my house and take a look but the sooner the better.
thanks. let me know if anyone has any questions

Timing belt went = bad.

Which motor is in that? Is it non-interference?

Jard, it's a 2.5L It's toast if the TB went since it is interference. But another 2.5 is fairly cheap and somewhat easy to find and would drop in. It is a SOHC so it could be the head gasket not the TB. I've never done it but a new HG is not too hard from what I hear. Or get someone to do it....

Actually, if it is a 98 GT, it has a DOHC 2.5L. It is still and interference engine. If the timing belt broke, you may get lucky and only have to replace valves, and necessary shims. I have seen w/pumps and idler pullies go bad on these engines, and throw the belt ... on the other hand, I have also seen the engines lock up, and/or throw a rod through the top of the block. Anyway you look at it, it will be a pricy repair.

Ah, that's right. Thanks. I got the dual/single mixed up. The DOHC was before the SOHC and the DOHC is the one that is prone to the HG problem.

i also believe 98 was dohc on the legacy. i know it was dohc only for the 98 impreza rs'. it has about mid 90k on everything, engine/tranny/chasis, i believe its a clean title, pretty sure it is. i will try and get interior shots up by tuesday. i have been busy and i have to work and pick up my impreza from the body shop so i will get around to it though and post. Hg requires a decent amount of disassembling the engine, thats why labor costs so much to repair one at shops. it isnt an expensive part or anything. if anyone wants to come and help me take off the timing belt cover or look at the engine they are welcome to. from what the previous owner told me, the engine was not leaking alot of oil so it probably didnt lock up from having no oil. people are getting more swaps nowadays and letting go of their ej25s for 800 or less. thats the only reason i bought this. but i have so much to do to my car and summer classes look like it is a must for me this year to graduate on time by 08 so let me know what you guys think or if anyone is interested. ive replied to everyone else's emails and pm;s as well. thanks
