Congratulations, now she can start posting if she hasn't already. The only thing that I have done is the alternator. I want to see pic's to so I can compare my L impersonating a GT

Again good luck,

Mark

Hey Great Car. You got yourself a DOHC motor. Unfortunitely Cobbs cams are twice as expensive but if you play with the intake timing you can extract a good bit of power from your engine.

The only problems I have heard is that they used mostly flimsy film MAF sensors rather than a sturdy wire MAF sensor. You may want to check to see what you have. As you probably know those film MAFs hate vibration. So if you get a tube intake make sure you secure the MAF mount very firmly.

Otherwise I have heard that the Phase I engine has problems with piston slap. (A friend of mine has a 98 with the same engine as yours that has been problem free)

In other words if the car is solid you shouldn't have any problems. The above list of problems were just isolated incidents that I have read about.

I love Legacies!!

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but...
The Legacy 2.5 never had a film-type MAF. They were all equipped with the hot-wire MAF until the switch to the SOHC engine for MY00 which uses a MAP (Manifold Air Pressure(?)) sensor.

As for any quirks, I can't say that I know of any. There are conflicting reports on the design of the crank -- specifically the position of the bearings... My '98 runs like a charm, but it is only barely broken in at only 36K miles.

Congrats on finding a 5 spd! Your wife must be an exceptionally cool woman to be driving a 5 spd!

Oh. Which reminds me, there is a quirk in our cars (not all have experienced this) in that the clutch pedal will occassionally stick about half-way down. I've only experienced this on pretty hot days when doing a lot of slow crawling. My mechanic believes this to be a result of the clutch fluid (we have hydraulic clutches) overheating. He thinks that a different fluid may do the trick, but someone here did that to no affect. YMMV.

Default Yeah Bill!

I guess you liked what you saw of my Luxo-barge on the drive Sunday.

Just FYI for everyone, Bill is slightly familiar with Scooby's as he has a 2000 (?) RS that was once turbo. We're waiting for it to be turbo again!

I don't think the Legacy ever had a hot film MAF either. Mine is a early production '98 (man. like April of '97) and it's a hot wire.

Once again Bill, welcome to the Southeast and now to the Legacy crowd!
